Beeson President cc: David Paulissen PKB/kjb . . , CITY OF LA PORTE INTER-OFFICE MEMO TO: Planning & Zoning Board of Adjustments D~aUlissen 10/03/85 FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: Special use permit-OTS-blk.350 The City has received a request for a special use permit to allow a truck terminal from Oceanic Transport Service, Inc. (OTS). History The property in question is located at the corner of Barbours Cut Blvd. and N. Broadway. It will be an addition to the existing truck terminal at this location. The proposed use of the property will be that of a commercial truck scales. This use is classified as a truck terminal under the terms of the existing Zoning Ordinance. Analysis As mentioned above, there exist a commercial truck servicing operation on the adjacent block. Both the servicing operation and the proposed truck scales are owned and operated by OTS. The property is currently zoned "I" Industrial so only a special use permit for the truck terminal is required to be in compliance with the Zoning Ordinance. This request has been compared with the proposed new Zoning Ordinance and map. This area is proposed to become "BI" Business Industrial. The use of the property as a truck terminal is a allowable use under the terms of the proposed ordinance. Recommendation The request is in keeping with both the existing Zoning Ordinance and the proposed Zoning Ordinance. The request is in keeping with the general character of the surrounding area and is the extension of an existing truck terminal. Based on the above review, staff would recommend that the special use permit for a truck terminal be granted.
