HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-26-22 Meeting Minutes of the La Porte Wrecker Committee MINUTES OF THE JULY 26, 2022, MEETING OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE WRECKER COMMITTEE The City of La Porte Wrecker Committee met Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., in the City Hall Council Chamber, 604 West Fairmont Parkway, La Porte, Texas. Committee Members present: Teresa Evans, Planning Director, City Manager’s Designee; Lee Woodward, City Secretary; Lt. Lance Cook, LPPD; Police Chief’s Designee Staff Members Present: Clark Askins, Assistant City Attorney; Maria Pena, Planning and Development Department Coordinator Call to order – Teresa Evans presided and called the meeting to order at 11:01 a.m. 1. CITIZEN COMMENT (Generally limited to five minutes per person; in accordance with state law, the time may be reduced if there is a high number of speakers or other considerations.) No comments were offered. 2. Presentation, discussion, and possible action to approve the December 20, 2021, meeting minutes. Member Cook moved to approve the minutes of the December 20, 2021, meeting; the motion was adopted. 3. PUBLIC HEARING – The Committee will receive a six-month report from La Porte Towing, Inc. regarding improvements to La Porte Towing, Inc.’s processes and procedures, in connection with December 2021 complaint against La Porte Towing, Inc., and receive public comment regarding possible action to suspend, cancel or revoke wrecker permits issued to La Porte Towing, Inc. for operation of wrecker vehicles in the City of La Porte. A. Open public meeting – Chair Evans opened the public hearing at 11:03 a.m. B. Public comments – A representative of La Porte Towing provided information on their revised employee processes. C. Staff comments – There were no staff comments. D. Close public hearing – Chair Evans closed the public hearing at 11:05 a.m. 4. Consider possible action to suspend, cancel, or revoke wrecker permits issued by the City of La Porte to La Porte Towing, Inc. for operation of wrecker vehicles, pursuant to Sec. 78-223 of the City Code of Ordinances. No action was taken. 5. Presentation, discussion and possible action regarding request by Joe Davis of Priority Towing for the City of La Porte to authorize an increase to non-consent tow rates for standard and heavy-duty tows within the city limits of La Porte. Member Woodward moved that the Committee recommend the City Council consider an increase in non-consent tow rates for the City of La Porte. The motion was not seconded and was not considered. 6. Committee comments Member Woodward thanked Mr. Davis of Priority Towing, Inc. for providing his perspectives on the wrecker fee process.
