MINUTES OF THE JULY 20, 2023
MEETING OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE WRECKER COMMITTEE
The City of La Porte Wrecker Committee met Thursday, July 20, 2023, at 1:30 p.m., in the City Hall Council Chamber, 604 West Fairmont Parkway, La Porte, Texas. Committee Members present: Teresa Evans, Planning Director, City Manager’s Designee; Lee Woodward, City Secretary; Lt. Marcus Upchurch, LPPD Police Chief’s Designee Staff Members Present: Clark Askins, City Attorney; Maria Pena, Planning and Development Department Coordinator
Call to order – City Secretary Lee Woodward called the meeting to order at 1:33 p.m. 1. CITIZEN COMMENT (Generally limited to five minutes per person; in accordance with state law,
the time may be reduced if there is a high number of speakers or other considerations.)
Charlie Hinds at 11521 N L St., La Porte with Charlie Hinds Wrecker Service commented on the increase of towing vehicles, cost of insurance, fuel, and requested the committee to consider increasing towing fees between $190 - $200.
Joe Davis 1320 W Tyler, La Porte with Priority Towing commented and requested the committee to increase the Non-Consent Towing fee to the $200 range and provided documentation of the
City of Houston towing fees.
2. Presentation, discussion, and possible action to approve the July 26, 2022, meeting minutes. Motion was made by Member Evans to approve the July 26, 2022, meeting minutes. Seconded by Lt. Upchurch, The motion was carried. 3. Presentation, discussion, and possible action to forward a recommendation to the La Porte City Council to authorize an increase to non-consent tow rates for standard and heavy-duty tows within the city limits of La Porte, Texas, in connection with requests for non-consent tow rated for standard and heavy-duty tows. Member Evans made a motion that the Committee recommends to the City Council to increase the standard tow rate fee to $185 for the City of La Porte. Seconded by Member Lt. Upchurch. The motion carried. 4. Committee comments – no comment Adjourn - Without objection, the meeting adjourned at 1:49 p.m.
