MINUTES OF THE MAY 6, 2024
MEETING OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE WRECKER COMMITTEE
The City of La Porte Wrecker Committee met Monday, May 6, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., in the City
Hall Council chamber, 604 West Fairmont Parkway, La Porte, Texas.
Committee Members Present: Teresa Evans, Director of Planning and Development
Department, City Manager’s Designee; Lee Woodward, City
Secretary; Lt. Marcus Upchurch, LPPD Police Chief’s
Designee
Staff Members Present: Clark Askins, City Attorney; Maria Pena, Planning and Development
Department Coordinator
Member Woodward called the meeting to order at 10:02 a.m.
1. Consider the approval of July 20, 2023, meeting minutes. - Member Upchurch moved to
approve the minutes of the July 20, 2023, meeting; the motion was adopted.
2. Presentation and discussion of a complaint filed with the La Porte Wrecker Committee
regarding La Porte Towing, followed by possible action to suspend, revoke, or cancel
wrecker permits issued by the City of La Porte to La Porte Towing for the operation of
wrecker vehicles, pursuant to Sec. 78-223 of the City of La Porte Code of Ordinances.
The public hearing was opened at 10:04 a.m. Joe Davis of Priority Towing and Charlie Hinds
of La Porte Automotive spoke in favor of La Porte Towing. Bobby Slocum of La Porte Towing
answered questions from the Committee. The public hearing was adjourned at 10:30 p.m.
Member Teresa Evans moved to recommend that La Porte Police Department coordinate
with La Porte Towing for documentation to ensure drivers follow all proper steps and create
no liability to the City; the motion was adopted.
3. Committee Comments – There were no comments.
Without objection, the meeting was adjourned at 10:45 a.m.
