AN ORDINANCE CANVASSING THE RETURNS OF THE REGULAR AND SPECIAL
MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS HELD WITHIN THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, ON
THE 2ND DAY OF MAY, 2026, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING MEMBERS TO
THE OFFICES OF COUNCILPERSON AT LARGE POSITION B, COUNCILPERSON
DISTRICT 1, AND COUNCILPERSON DISTRICT 6; TO APPROVE OR DENY THE
PROPOSITION "THE REAUTHORIZATION OF THE LOCAL SALES AND USE TAX
IN THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, AT THE RATE OF ONE-FOURTH OF ONE
PERCENT TO CONTINUE PROVIDING REVENUE FOR MAINTENANCE AND
REPAIR OF MUNICIPAL STREETS. THE TAX EXPIRES ON THE FOURTH
ANNIVERSARY OF THE DATE OF THIS ELECTION UNLESS THE IMPOSITION
OF THE TAX IS REAUTHORIZED."; AND APPROVE OR DENY THE PROPOSITION
"SHALL THE CITY OF SHOREACRES, TEXAS, BE CONSOLIDATED WITH AND
KNOWN AS THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS"; FINDING THAT NOTICE OF THE
ELECTION WAS DULY AND PROPERLY GIVEN, THAT THE ELECTION WAS
PROPERLY HELD AND RETURNS THEREOF MADE BY THE PROPER OFFICIALS
IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LAWS OF THE STATE; CONTAINING A
SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; CONTAINING A REPEALING CLAUSE; CONTAINING
AN OPEN MEETINGS CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS the regular municipal election of the City of La Porte, Texas, for election of
members of the City Council as prescribed by Section 2.03 of the City Charter,
for the purpose of electing members to the offices of Council At -Large Position
B, Councilperson District 1, and Councilperson District 6; and the special
elections to approve or deny the proposition "The reauthorization of the local
sales and use tax in the City of La Porte, Texas, at the rate of one-fourth of one
percent to continue providing revenue for maintenance and repair of municipal
streets. the tax expires on the fourth anniversary of the date of this election unless
the imposition of the tax is reauthorized." and to approve or deny the proposition
"Shall the City of Shoreacres, Texas, be consolidated with and known as the City
of La Porte, Texas"; was held on the 2nd day of May 2026, in the city; and
WHEREAS the election was held under and pursuant to the provisions of City Council
Ordinance 2025-5007 to order the general election for election of members to the
offices of Council At -Large Position B, Councilperson District 1, and
Councilperson District 6, Ordinance 2026-5027 to order the special election for
municipal street local sales and use tax reauthorization, and Ordinance 2026-5027
to order the special election for the consolidation of the City of Shoreacres, Texas,
with the City of La Porte, Texas; and
WHEREAS the elections having been duly and regularly held as called and provided in said
ordinances, and according to law, and the returns thereof having been made and
the election judges having certified the results of the elections, as hereinafter set
out, and the City Council having duly and regularly canvassed the returns of the
elections and finding that the total votes cast at the elections were as follows:

WHEREAS the City Council of the City of La Porte finds that the election returns set out
above to be accurate and correct.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1: Brent McCaulley received a majority of the votes cast at the election for the office
of Councilperson At -Large Position B, and, accordingly, Brent McCaulley is declared elected to
the office of Councilperson At -Large Position B, subject to the taking of the oath provided by
the laws of the State of Texas.
SECTION 2: Mandi Williams received a majority of the votes cast at the election for the office
of Councilperson District 1, and, accordingly, Mandi Williams is declared elected to the office
of Councilperson District 1, subject to the taking of the oath provided by the laws of the State of
Texas.
SECTION 3: Robbie McLarrin received a majority of the votes cast at the election for the office
of Councilperson District 6, and, accordingly, Robbie McLarrin is declared elected to the office
of Councilperson District 6, subject to the taking of the oath provided by the laws of the State of
Texas.
SECTION 4: Proposition A received a majority of the votes cast at the election in favor of
adoption and, accordingly, is adopted and the proposition "The reauthorization of the local sales
and use tax in the City of La Porte, Texas, at the rate of one-fourth of one percent to continue
providing revenue for maintenance and repair of municipal streets. the tax expires on the fourth
anniversary of the date of this election unless the imposition of the tax is reauthorized." is
approved and reauthorized.
SECTION 5: Proposition B received a majority of the votes cast at the election in favor of
adoption and, accordingly, is adopted and the proposition "Shall the City of Shoreacres, Texas,
be consolidated with and known as the City of La Porte, Texas" is approved by the voters of the
City of La Porte, Texas, and the election returns shall be recorded in the records of the City of
La Porte, Texas, in accordance with the Section 61.006 of the Texas Local Government Code.
As the same proposition was adopted by the voters of the City of Shoreacres, Texas, on May 2,
2026, at a special election held in the City of Shoreacres, Texas, the consolidation of the City of
Shoreacres, Texas, with the City of La Porte, Texas, shall be in effect upon the canvassing of the
City of Shoreacres, Texas, election returns by the City Council of the City of Shoreacres, Texas,
and the recording of such election returns in the records of the City of Shoreacres, Texas, in
accordance with Section 61.006 of the Texas Local Government Code.
SECTION 6: The City Council finds that the notice of the elections was duly and properly
given as required by law and as provided in the ordinances calling the aforementioned general
and special elections, and that the elections were duly and regularly held, and the returns thereof
duly and regularly made by the proper officials of the elections, and in all things according to
the law.
SECTION 7: Each and every provision, paragraph, sentence and clause of this ordinance has
been separately considered and passed by the City Council of the City of La Porte, Texas, and
each said provision would have been separately passed without any other provision, and if any
provision hereof shall be ineffective, invalid or unconstitutional, for any cause, it shall not impair
or affect the remaining portion, or any part thereof, but the valid portion shall be in force just as
if it had been passed alone.
SECTION 8: All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to
the extent of such conflict only.
SECTION 9: The City Council officially finds, determines, recites, and declares that a sufficient
written notice of the date, hour, place, and subject of this meeting of the City Council was posted
at a place convenient to the public at the City Hall of the City for the time required by law
preceding this meeting, as required by the Open Meetings Act, Chapter 551, Texas Government
Code; and that this meeting has been open to the public as required by law at all times during
which this ordinance and the subject matter thereof has been discussed, considered, and formally
acted upon. The City Council further ratifies, approves, and confirms such written notice and the
contents and posting thereof.
SECTION 10: This ordinance shall be in effect immediately upon its passage and approval.
