A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, ADOPTING
THE 2025 HARRIS COUNTY MULTI-JURISDICATIONAL HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of La Porte, Texas, recognizes the threat that natural
hazards pose to people and property within the City of La Porte; and
WHEREAS, the City of La Porte has participated in the formulation of a multi -hazard mitigation
plan, hereby known as the 2025 Harris County Multi -Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan, in
accordance with the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000; and
WHEREAS, the 2025 Harris County Multi -Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan has already been
approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Texas Division of
Emergency Management (TDEM); and
WHEREAS, the 2025 Harris County Multi -Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan identifies
mitigation goals and actions to reduce or eliminate long-term risk to people and property in the City
of La Porte from the impacts of future hazards and disasters; and
WHEREAS, following completion of the 2025 Harris County Multi -Jurisdictional Hazard
Mitigation Plan, the voters of the City of La Porte, Texas, and the voters of the City of Shoreacres,
Texas, each approved the consolidation of the City of Shoreacres with and into the City of La Porte
in accordance with Chapter 61 of the Texas Local Government Code, and upon completion of the
required canvassing and recording of the election returns, the City of La Porte became the successor
jurisdiction for the former City of Shoreacres, including all hazards, risk assessments,
vulnerabilities, mitigation strategies, and mitigation actions identified in the Plan for the former
City of Shoreacres; and
WHEREAS, adoption of the 2025 Harris County Multi -Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan by
the City Council demonstrates their commitment to hazard mitigation and achieving the goals
outlined in the 2025 Harris County Multi -Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA
PORTE, TEXAS:
Section I. The City of La Porte adopts the 2025 Harris County Multi -Jurisdictional Hazard
Mitigation Plan. This plan, approved by the community, may be edited or amended after submission
for review, but will not require the community to re -adopt any further iterations. This only applies
to this specific plan and does not absolve the community from updating the plan in 5 years.
