HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-2013-09 supporting attendance by city councilmembers, boardmembers, staff and guests to local/regional eventsRESOLUTION NO. 2013- cA A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE SUPPORTING ATTENDANCE BY CITY COUNCILMEMBERS, BOARD MEMBERS, STAFF AND GUESTS TO LOCAL AND REGIONAL EVENTS AND DETERMINING ATTENDANCE SERVES A PUBLIC PURPOSE; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, City Councilmembers, board members and staff of the City of La Porte are often invited to attend local and regional public events and functions in an effort to promote and encourage economic development and civic recognition; WHEREAS, City Councilmembers, board members and staff of the City of La Porte are encouraged to attend local and regional public events and functions, oftentimes with a guest, including but not limited to public events and functions associated with the following: Chambers of Commerce, Mayor and Council Associations, Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership, Economic Alliance Houston Port Region, La Porte Education Foundation, Local Emergency Planning Committees, La Porte Police Officers' Association, Greater Houston Partnership, and the Houston -Galveston Area Council; and WHEREAS, attendance by City Councilmembers, board members, staff and guests at such functions and events serves a public purpose because it is central to the City's goal of promoting and encouraging economic development and civic recognition, as well as furthering the goals of fostering effective communication and mutual respect in the business and economic development communities, and staying abreast of local and regional issues affecting the City of La Porte. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE: Section 1. The City of La Porte supports the attendance of City Councilmembers, board members, staff and guests to local and regional public events and functions, and finds it serves a public purpose to attend said events and functions. Section 2. The City Council officially finds, determines, recites and declares that a sufficient written notice of the date, hour, place and subject of this meeting of the City Council is posted at a place convenient to the public at the City Hall of the City for the time required by law preceding this meeting, as required by Chapter 551, Texas Government Code; and that this meeting has been open to the public as required by law at all times during which this Resolution and the subject matter thereof has been discussed, considered and formally acted upon. The City Council further ratifies, approves and confirms such written notice and the contents and posting thereof. Section 3. This Resolution shall be effective upon its passage and approval.
