GENERAL NOTES
1. SURFACE RESTORATION AT THE END OF ALL CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS, THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL RESTORE EXISTING FACILITY (I.E. PROPERTY) EQUAL TO
OR BETTER THAN EXISTING SITE CONDITIONS PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION.
2. THE LOADING AND UNLOADING OF ALL PIPE VALVES, HYDRANTS, MANHOLES
AND OTHER ACCESSORIES SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE
MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDED PRACTICES AND SHALL AT ALL TIMES BE
PERFORMED WITH CARE TO AVOID ANY DAMAGE TO THE MATERIAL. THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL LOCATE AND PROVIDE THE NECESSARY STORAGE AREAS
FOR MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT.
3. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SAFEGUARDING AND
PROTECTING ALL MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT STORED ON THE JOBSITE. THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE STORAGE OF MATERIALS IN A
SAFE AND WORKMANLIKE MANNER TO PREVENT INJURIES, DURING AND AFTER
WORKING HOURS, UNTIL PROJECT COMPLETION.
4. CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE SHEETING, SHORING AND BRACING AS
NECESSARY TO PROTECT WORKMEN AND EXISTING UTILITIES DURING ALL
PHRASES OF CONSTRUCTION, AS PER O.S.H.A. REQUIREMENTS.
5. ALL TESTING PROCEDURES USED ON THIS PROJECT SHALL CONFORM TO THE
CITY OF LA PORTE STANDARDS. IF ANY OF THE TEST RESULTS DO NOT MEET
THE TESTING STANDARDS, IT SHALL BE THE CONTRACTOR'S RESPONSIBILITY TO
REMOVE OR REPLACE SUCH MATERIAL SO THAT THE TESTING STANDARDS CAN
BE MET.
6. ALL FINISHED GRADES SHALL VARY UNIFORMLY BETWEEN FINISHED
ELEVATIONS.
7. CONTRACTOR SHALL UNCOVER EXISTING UTILITIES AT ALL "POINTS OF
CROSSING" TO DETERMINE IF CONFLICTS EXIST BEFORE COMMENCING ANY
CONSTRUCTION. NOTIFY THE DESIGN ENGINEER AT ONCE OF ANY CONFLICT.
8. TOP OF FOUNDATION (SLAB) SHALL BE A MINIMUM OF 12" ABOVE TOP OF CURB
AND/OR 18" ABOVE THE CROWN OF ROAD IN ROADSIDE DITCH CONSTRUCTION
AREAS OR 2' ABOVE 100 YR FLOOD ELEVATION, WHICHEVER IS HIGHER.
9. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOT UNLOAD ANY TRACK -TYPE CONSTRUCTION
MACHINERY ON ANY EXISTING PAVEMENT OR CROSS OVER ANY EXISTING
PAVEMENT OR CURB DURING ANY PROJECT.
10. IF IT IS PERMISSIBLE TO USE A BACKHOE FOR TRENCH EXCAVATION IN LIEU OF
A TRENCHING MACHINE.
11. CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY CITY OF LA PORTE PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS
COORDINATOR AT 281-471-5020 X293 TO HAVE AN INSPECTION.
12. THE CITY OF LA PORTE REQUIRES 48 HOURS NOTICE PRIOR TO COMMENCING
WORK IN THE CITY'S R.O.W.
13. CONTRACTORS CANNOT USE THE CITY'S R.O.W. FOR STORAGE OF
CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS.
14. ALL BACKFILL SHALL BE ENGINEERED TO 95% STANDARD PROCTOR DENSITY
AND BE TESTED BY AN APPROVED TESTING LAB.
15. CONTACT CITY OF LA PORTE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT PRIOR TO MAKING
TIE-INS TO EXISTING UTILITIES.
16. WHEN HYDROMULCH IS REQUIRED, CONTRACTOR SHALL KEEP MULCH MOIST
AFTER INSTALLATION AND UNTIL AREA SHOWS GROWTH OVER 75% OF THE
HYRDROMULCHED AREA.
17.48 HOURS PRIOR TO START OF CONSTRUCTION, CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY
THE UTILITY COORDINATING COMMITTEE AT 223-4567.
18. CITY OF LA PORTE ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT SHALL APPROVE THE
CONSTRUCTION LAYOUT.
19. ALL EXCESS EXCAVATED MATERIAL SHALL BECOME PROPERTY OF THE
CONTRACTOR, AND REMOVE FROM SITE, AND DISPOSED OF IN A LEGAL
MANNER.
20. PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION, CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE WITH RESIDENTS
WHEN INTERRUPTING EXISTING SERVICES.
21. CONTRACTOR SHALL OBTAIN AN ELECTRICAL PERMIT (WHEN NEEDED) FROM
THE CITY OF LA PORTE INSPECTION DEPARTMENT PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION.
ELECTRICIAN MUST BE LICENSED BY THE CITY OF LA PORTE. ELECTRICAL
INSPECTIONS SHALL BE COORDINATED WITH THE INSPECTIONS DEPARTMENT.
22. BARRICADES SHALL BE EQUIPPED WITH ORANGE FLASHING LIGHTS.
23. MANHOLES SHALL BE EQUIPPED WITH INFILTRATION INSERTS.

PAVING NOTES
1. 6" - 5 SACK, 3000 PSI REINFORCED CONCRETE WITH #4 BARS, 24" C-C OR # 3
BARS, 18" C-C. IS THE MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE PAVEMENT CONSTRUCTION FOR
THRU TRAFFIC WAYS FOR LOCAL RESIDENTIAL STREETS.
2. 7" - 5 SACK, 3000 PSI REINFORCED CONCRETE WITH #4 BARS, 24" C-C IS THE
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE PAVEMENT CONSTRUCTION FOR COLLECTOR STREETS.
3. 8" - 5 SACK, 3000 PSI REINFORCED CONCRETE WITH #4 BARS, 18" C-C IS THE
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE PAVEMENT CONSTRUCTION FOR MAJOR THOROUGH
FARES.
4. 6" THICK, 6% DRY WEIGHT, IS THE MINIMUM LINE STABILIZED SUBGRADE FOR
PAVEMENT SUBGRADE.
5. CONCRETE SIDEWALKS SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED WITHIN EACH STREET
RIGHT-OF-WAY PER LA PORTE'S STANDARD DETAILS.
6. ALL INTERSECTIONS HSLL BE CONSTRUCTED WITH WHEEL CHAIR RAMPS IN
ACCORDANCE WITH THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE OF TRAFFIC SAFETY
MEMORANDUM DATED MAY 6, 1976 (HIGHWAY SAFETY ACT - 1973 SECTION 288).
7. ALL PAVING SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CITY OF LA PORTE STANDARD
DETAIL SHEETS.
8. ALL RETURNS SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH PICM AND THE LA PORTE ZONING
ORDINANCE.
9. WHEN 6" CONCRETE PAVED ROADWAY INTERSECTS 7" CONCRETE PAVED
ROADWAY OR ROADWAY, 7" CONCRETE SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED TO ENDS OF
ALL CURB RETURNS.
10. FAILURE TO MEET THE REQUIREMENTS THROUGH THE TESTING PROCEDURE
WILL RESULT IN THE REJECTION OF THAT PORTION DEEMED TO BE DEFICIENT.
THE PROPOSED PAVEMENT DEPTHS SHOWN ON THE PLAN DETAIL SHEETS IS
CONSISTENT WITH THESE NOTES AND SHALL BE USED TO DETERMINE THE
REQUIREMENT IN EACH CASE.
11. FAILURE OF PAVEMENT TO MEET THESE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS WILL RESULT
IN THE REJECTION OF PAVEMENT. IMMEDIATE REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT OF
SUBSTANDARD PAVEMENT SECTIONS WILL BE NECESSARY TO SATISFY THESE
REQUIREMENTS.
12. PAVEMENTS EXCEEDING DEPTH OR STRENGTH REQUIREMENTS WILL BE
ACCEPTED IF BOTH CRITERIA MEET THE MINIMUM ESTABLISHED

13. TRANSVERSE EXPANSION JOINTS ARE REQUIRED AT MAXIMUM SPACING OF

14. EXPANSION JOINT LAYOUT FOR INTERSECTIONS SHALL BE PROVIDED BY
ENGINEER TO THE CITY.
15. DENSITY TEST TO BE RETAKEN IN THE EVENT OF A %2 " (ONE-HALF INCH) OR
GREATER RAINFALL.
16. CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY THE CITY OF LA PORTE PUBLIC WORKS
DEPARTMENT AT 281-471-5020 48 HOURS PRIOR TO COMMENCING ANY
CONSTRUCTION WITHIN RIGHT-OF-WAY.
STORM SEWER NOTES
1 ALL STATIONS ARE CENTER LINE OF STREET RIGHT-OF-WAY STATIONS EXCEPT
WHERE STORM SEWER IS IN SIDE LOT EASEMENTS: THIS STATIONING IS BASED
ON CENTERLINE OF PIPE.
2. STORM SEWERS SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH CITY OF LA
PORTE STANDARD DETAILS SHALL BE OBSERVED.
3. ALL STORM SEWER 18" AND LARGER TO BE REINFORCED CONCRETE RUBBER
GASKET PIPE, A.S.T.M. C-76 CLASS III, INCLUDING INLET LEADS CROSSING
UNDER EXISTING OR PROPOSED PAVEMENT.
4. REINFORCED CONCRETE PIPE STORM SEWER SHALL BE INSTALLED, BEDDED
AND BACKFILLED IN CONFORMITY WITH CITY OF LA PORTE STANDARD DETAIL
SHEETS. BACKFILL UNDER OR WITHIN V (ONE FOOT) OF EXISTING OR
PROPOSED PAVEMENT WITH CEMENT STABILIZED SAND (1-% SACKS PER CUBIC
YARD MIX). ALL NORMALLY SUBMERGED STORM PIPE SHALL BE RUBBER
GASKETED.
5. CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE A MINIMUM OF 6" (SIX INCHES) CLEARANCE AT
STORM SEWER AND WATER LINE CROSSINGS, AND A MINIMUM OF 1 FOOT
(TWELVE INCHES) AT STORM SEWER AND SANITARY SEWER CROSSINGS.
6. ALL STORM SEWER MANHOLES SHALL BE CITY OF LA PORTE TYPE "C" UNLESS
OTHERWISE NOTED AND SHALL BE LOCATED A MINIMUM OF 3' BACK OF CURB.
7. ALL INLET TYPE TO BE CLEARLY NOTED AND GRATE TYPE INLETS SHALL BE
EQUIPPED WITH CAST IRON GRATES.
8. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR VERIFYING LOCATION OF ALL
EXISTING UTILITIES PRIOR TO EXCAVATION.
9. MINIMUM STORM SEWER SIZE IS 18" INCH DIAMETER IN PUBLIC R.O.W. &
EASEMENTS.
10. ALL STORM SEWER MANHOLE COVERS MUST INCLUDE THE WORD "STORM
SEWER."
11. CULVERTS MUST MATCH EXISTING FLOW LINES.
WATER DISTRIBUTION NOTES
1. ALL STATIONS ARE CENTERLINE OF STREET RIGHT-OF-WAY STATIONS EXCEPT
WATER LINE STATIONING IN SIDE LOT EASEMENTS. THIS STATIONING IS BASED
ON CENTERLINE OF PIPE.
2. WATER MAINS SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED ACCORDING TO CITY OF LA PORTE

3. ALL FLUSHING VALVES ARE TO BE LOCATED AS SHOWN ON PLANS AND SET 3'
(THREE FEET) BEHIND BACK OF CURB OR AT APPROVED LOCATIONS.
4. ALL WATER MAINS TO HAVE MINIMUM OF 4' (FOUR FEET) COVER FROM
PROPOSED TOP OF CURB WHEN CONSTRUCTED IN STREET RIGHT-OF-WAY AND
4' (FOUR FEET) COVER FROM FINISHED GRADE WHEN CONSTRUCTED WITHIN
EASEMENTS.
5. CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE FOR A MINIMUM HORIZONTAL CLEARANCE OF 10,
(TEN FEET) BETWEEN WATER MAINS AND SANITARY SEWER LINES.
6. ALL GATE VALVES TO BE COUNTERCLOCKWISE OPENING AND ALL FLUSHING
VALVES TO BE COUNTERCLOCKWISE OPENINGS, VALVES TO BE LOCATED
OPPOSITE PROPERTY LINE OR R.O.W. LINE EXTENDED UNLESS OTHERWISE
SHOWN ON PLANS. AWWA GATE VALVES WITH RESILIENT SEATS SHALL

PROTECTED FROM FREEZING. ALL PIPE SHALL BE KEPT FREE OF DIRT AND

9. ALL SINGLE WATER SERVICE LEADS TO BE % INCH (MIN.). ALL WATER SERVICE
LEADS TO EXTEND TO OPPOSITE PROPERTY LINE AT COMMON LOT LINE
UNLESS OTHERWISE SHOWN ON PLANS.
10. NO CONNECTIONS SHALL BE MADE TO EXISTING WATER LINES UNTIL ALL
PROPOSED WATER LINES HAVE BEEN THOROUGHLY CLEANED, TESTED,

ODimension "D" is based on ASTM C-76, Class III, Wall thickness "B".
If any other wall thickness is used, dimension "D" must be adjusted
accordingly.

specified around the safety end treatment, backfill shall be
as directed by Engineer.
GENERAL NOTES:
Precast safety end treatment for reinforced concrete pipe may be used
for TYPE II end treatment as specified in Item "Safety End Treatment".
When Precast Safety End Treatment is used as a Contractor's alternate
to mitered RCP, Riprap will not be required unless noted otherwise on
the plans.
Manufacture of this product shall conform to requirements of
Item "Safety End Treatment" except as noted below :
A. Minimum reinforcing shall be #4 at 6" (Grade 40)
or#4at9"(Grade 60)each way or6x6-W12xW12
or 5 x 5 - W10 x W10 welded wire fabric.
B. Concrete for precast (steel formed) sections shall be Class "C"
with a minimum compressive strength of 3600 psi.
At the option and expense of the Contractor the next larger size
of Safety End Treatment may be furnished; as long as the "D" dimension
cast is that of the required size of pipe.
Pipe Runners are designed for a traversing load of 1,800 Lbs at yield
as recommended by Research Report 280-1, "Safety Treatment of Roadside
Cross -Drainage Structures", Texas Transportation Institute, March 1981.
Safety Pipe Runners, Cross Pipes, Pipe Support Posts, and Pipe Stubs
shall conform to the requirements of ASTM A53 (Type E or S, Grade B),
ASTM A500 (Grade B), or API 5LX52.
All steel components except reinforcing, shall be galvanized after
fabrication. Galvanizing damaged during transport or construction shall
be repaired in accordance with the specifications.

GENERAL NOTES

PROJECT GRADING PLANS. CONTRACTOR SHALL TAKE PRECAUTIONS TO MINIMIZE
OVER -EXCAVATION. OVER EXCAVATION SHALL BE FILLED WITH COMPACTED INFILL
MATERIAL, OR AS DIRECTED BY THE SITE SOIL ENGINEER.
2. SITE SOIL ENGINEER WILL OBSERVE THE EXCAVATION AND APPROVE PRIOR TO
PLACEMENT OF BEARING PAD MATERIAL. 12"
3. OVER -EXCAVATED AREAS IN FRONT OF WALL FACE SHALL BE FILLED WITH

9. FIRST COURSE OF SRW UNITS SHALL BE PLACED ON THE BEARING PAD. THE
UNITS SHALL BE CHECKED FOR LEVEL AND ALIGNMENT. THE FIRST COURSE IS THE
MOST IMPORTANT TO INSURE ACCURATE AND ACCEPTABLE RESULTS.
10. INSURE THAT UNITS ARE IN FULL CONTACT WITH BASE.
11. UNITS ARE PLACED SIDE BY SIDE FOR FULL LENGTH OF STRAIGHT WALL
ALIGNMENT. ALIGNMENT MAY BE DONE BY MEANS OF A STRING LINE OR OFFSET
FROM BASE LINE TO THE REAR OF THE SRW UNIT. ADJUST UNIT SPACING FOR
CURVED SECTIONS ACCORDING TO MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATION.
12. PLACE UNIT FILL.
13. PLACE AND COMPACT FILL BEHIND AND WITHIN UNITS TO DENSITIES SPECIFIED
BY THE SITE SOIL ENGINEER.
14. CLEAN ALL EXCESS DEBRIS FROM TOP OF UNITS AND INSTALL NEXT COURSE.
ENSURE EACH COURSE IS COMPLETELY FILLED PRIOR TO PROCEEDING TO NEXT
COURSE.
15. THE GEOSYNTHETIC REINFORCEMENT SHALL BE INSTALLED AT THE WALL HEIGHT,
HORIZONTAL LOCATION, AND TO THE EXTENT AS SHOWN ON THE PROJECT
CONSTRUCTION PLANS, OR AS DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER.
16. THE GEOSYNTHETIC REINFORCEMENT SHALL BE LAID HORIZONTALLY ON
COMPACTED INFILL AND CONNECTED TO THE CONCRETE SRW UNITS.
17. CORRECT ORIENTATION (ROLL DIRECTION) OF THE GEOSYNTHETIC REINFORCEMENT
SHALL BE VERIFIED BY THE CONTRACTOR.
18. THE GEOSYNTHETIC REINFORCEMENT SHALL BE PULLED TAUT AND FREE OF
WRINKLES PRIOR TO PLACEMENT OF SOIL FILL. THE GEOSYNTHETIC MAY BE
SECURED IN PLACE WITH STAPLES, PINS, SANDBAGS OR FILL AS REQUIRED BY FILL
PROPERTIES, FILL PLACEMENT PROCEDURES, OR WEATHER CONDITIONS, OR AS
DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER.
19. THE PROCEDURE FOR TENSIONING GEOSYNTHETIC REINFORCEMENT SHALL BE
UNIFORM THROUGHOUT WALL LENGTH AND HEIGHT.
20. LAY EACH SUCCESSIVE COURSE OF SRW UNITS ENSURING THAT SHEAR
CONNECTORS ARE ENGAGED.
21. REPEAT PROCEDURES TO THE EXTENT OF THE WALL HEIGHT.
22. UPPERMOST ROW OF SRW UNITS OR CAPS SHALL BE GLUED TO UNDERLYING
UNITS WITH AN ADHESIVE, AS RECOMMENDED BY THE MANUFACTURER.
23. SURFACE DRAINAGE DURING AND AFTER CONSTRUCTION OF THE WALL SHALL BE
PROVIDED TO MINIMIZE WATER INFILTRATION IN THE REINFORCED SOIL ZONE.
MATERIALS
A. HIGH STRENGTH, HIGH DENSITY CONCRETE UNITS, FREEZE -THAW RESISTANT WITH
REAR ALIGNMENT FLANGE PROVIDING A 1 1 /8" SET BACK FROM PLANE WITH EACH
COURSE, "ANCHOR DIAMOND RETAINING WALL UNITS" AS MANUFACTURED UNDER
THE LICENSE OF ANCHOR WALL SYSTEMS.
1. CONCRETE WALL UNITS SHALL MEET REQUIREMENTS OF ASTM C90-90 EXCEPT
COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH SHALL BE A MINIMUM OF 3,000 PSI AND THE MAXIMUM
WATER ABSORPTION SHALL BE LIMITED TO 7.0 PERCENT.
2. THE CONCRETE WALL UNITS SHALL HAVE ADEQUATE FREEZE THAW
RESISTANCE IN ACCORDANCE WITH ASTM C666- 90, MODIFIED TO 50 CYCLES.
3. EXTERIOR DIMENSIONS MAY VARY. CONCRETE WALL UNITS ARE REQUIRED TO
