GENERALNOTES
1. SURFACE RESTORATION AT THE END OF ALL CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS, THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL RESTORE EXISTING FACILITY (I.E. PROPERTY) EQUAL TO
OR BETTER THAN EXISTING SITE CONDITIONS PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION.
2. THE LOADING AND UNLOADING OF ALL PIPE VALVES, HYDRANTS, MANHOLES
AND OTHER ACCESSORIES SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE
MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDED PRACTICES AND SHALL AT ALL TIMES BE
PERFORMED WITH CARE TO AVOID ANY DAMAGE TO THE MATERIAL. THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL LOCATE AND PROVIDE THE NECESSARY STORAGE AREAS
FOR MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT.
3. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SAFEGUARDING AND
PROTECTING ALL MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT STORED ON THE JOBSITE. THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE STORAGE OF MATERIALS IN A
SAFE AND WORKMANLIKE MANNER TO PREVENT INJURIES, DURING AND AFTER
WORKING HOURS, UNTIL PROJECT COMPLETION.
4. CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE SHEETING, SHORING AND BRACING AS
NECESSARY TO PROTECT WORKMEN AND EXISTING UTILITIES DURING ALL
PHRASES OF CONSTRUCTION, AS PER O.S.H.A. REQUIREMENTS.
5. ALL TESTING PROCEDURES USED ON THIS PROJECT SHALL CONFORM TO THE
CITY OF LA PORTE STANDARDS. IF ANY OF THE TEST RESULTS DO NOT MEET
THE TESTING STANDARDS, IT SHALL BE THE CONTRACTOR'S RESPONSIBILITY TO
REMOVE OR REPLACE SUCH MATERIAL SO THAT THE TESTING STANDARDS CAN
BE MET.
6. ALL FINISHED GRADES SHALL VARY UNIFORMLY BETWEEN FINISHED
ELEVATIONS.
7. CONTRACTOR SHALL UNCOVER EXISTING UTILITIES AT ALL "POINTS OF
CROSSING" TO DETERMINE IF CONFLICTS EXIST BEFORE COMMENCING ANY
CONSTRUCTION. NOTIFY THE DESIGN ENGINEER AT ONCE OF ANY CONFLICT.
8. TOP OF FOUNDATION (SLAB) SHALL BE A MINIMUM OF 12" ABOVE TOP OF CURB
AND/OR 18" ABOVE THE CROWN OF ROAD IN ROADSIDE DITCH CONSTRUCTION
AREAS OR 2' ABOVE 100 YR FLOOD ELEVATION, WHICHEVER IS HIGHER.
9. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOT UNLOAD ANY TRACK -TYPE CONSTRUCTION
MACHINERY ON ANY EXISTING PAVEMENT OR CROSS OVER ANY EXISTING
PAVEMENT OR CURB DURING ANY PROJECT.
10. IF IT IS PERMISSIBLE TO USE A BACKHOE FOR TRENCH EXCAVATION IN LIEU OF
A TRENCHING MACHINE.
11. CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY CITY OF LA PORTE PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS
COORDINATOR AT 281-471-5020 X293 TO HAVE AN INSPECTION.
12. THE CITY OF LA PORTE REQUIRES 48 HOURS NOTICE PRIOR TO COMMENCING
WORK IN THE CITY'S R.O.W.
13. CONTRACTORS CANNOT USE THE CITY'S R.O.W. FOR STORAGE OF
CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS.
14. ALL BACKFILL SHALL BE ENGINEERED TO 95% STANDARD PROCTOR DENSITY
AND BE TESTED BY AN APPROVED TESTING LAB.
15. CONTACT CITY OF LA PORTE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT PRIOR TO MAKING
TIE-INS TO EXISTING UTILITIES.
16. WHEN HYDROMULCH IS REQUIRED, CONTRACTOR SHALL KEEP MULCH MOIST
AFTER INSTALLATION AND UNTIL AREA SHOWS GROWTH OVER 75 % OF THE
HYRDROMULCHED AREA.
17.48 HOURS PRIOR TO START OF CONSTRUCTION, CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY
THE UTILITY COORDINATING COMMITTEE AT 223-4567.
18. CITY OF LA PORTE ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT SHALL APPROVE THE
CONSTRUCTION LAYOUT.
19. ALL EXCESS EXCAVATED MATERIAL SHALL BECOME PROPERTY OF THE
CONTRACTOR, AND REMOVE FROM SITE, AND DISPOSED OF IN A LEGAL
MANNER.
20. PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION, CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE WITH RESIDENTS
WHEN INTERRUPTING EXISTING SERVICES.
21. CONTRACTOR SHALL OBTAIN AN ELECTRICAL PERMIT (WHEN NEEDED) FROM
THE CITY OF LA PORTE INSPECTION DEPARTMENT PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION.
ELECTRICIAN MUST BE LICENSED BY THE CITY OF LA PORTE. ELECTRICAL
INSPECTIONS SHALL BE COORDINATED WITH THE INSPECTIONS DEPARTMENT.
22. BARRICADES SHALL BE EQUIPPED WITH ORANGE FLASHING LIGHTS.
23. MANHOLES SHALL BE EQUIPPED WITH INFILTRATION INSERTS.

1. 6" - 5 SACK, 3000 PSI REINFORCED CONCRETE WITH #4 BARS, 24" C-C OR # 3
BARS, 18" C-C. IS THE MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE PAVEMENT CONSTRUCTION FOR
THRU TRAFFIC WAYS FOR LOCAL RESIDENTIAL STREETS.
2. 7" - 5 SACK, 3000 PSI REINFORCED CONCRETE WITH #4 BARS, 24" C-C IS THE
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE PAVEMENT CONSTRUCTION FOR COLLECTOR STREETS.
3. 8" - 5 SACK, 3000 PSI REINFORCED CONCRETE WITH #4 BARS, 18" C-C IS THE
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE PAVEMENT CONSTRUCTION FOR MAJOR THOROUGH
FARES.
4. 6" THICK, 6% DRY WEIGHT, IS THE MINIMUM LINE STABILIZED SUBGRADE FOR
PAVEMENT SUBGRADE.
5. CONCRETE SIDEWALKS SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED WITHIN EACH STREET
RIGHT-OF-WAY PER LA PORTE'S STANDARD DETAILS.
6. ALL INTERSECTIONS HSLL BE CONSTRUCTED WITH WHEEL CHAIR RAMPS IN
ACCORDANCE WITH THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE OF TRAFFIC SAFETY
MEMORANDUM DATED MAY 6, 1976 (HIGHWAY SAFETY ACT - 1973 SECTION 288).
7. ALL PAVING SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CITY OF LA PORTE STANDARD
DETAIL SHEETS.
8. ALL RETURNS SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH PICM AND THE LA PORTE ZONING
ORDINANCE.
9. WHEN 6" CONCRETE PAVED ROADWAY INTERSECTS 7" CONCRETE PAVED
ROADWAY OR ROADWAY, 7" CONCRETE SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED TO ENDS OF
ALL CURB RETURNS.
10. FAILURE TO MEET THE REQUIREMENTS THROUGH THE TESTING PROCEDURE
WILL RESULT IN THE REJECTION OF THAT PORTION DEEMED TO BE DEFICIENT.
THE PROPOSED PAVEMENT DEPTHS SHOWN ON THE PLAN DETAIL SHEETS IS
CONSISTENT WITH THESE NOTES AND SHALL BE USED TO DETERMINE THE
REQUIREMENT IN EACH CASE.
11. FAILURE OF PAVEMENT TO MEET THESE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS WILL RESULT
IN THE REJECTION OF PAVEMENT. IMMEDIATE REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT OF

STORM SEWER NOTES
1 ALL STATIONS ARE CENTER LINE OF STREET RIGHT-OF-WAY STATIONS EXCEPT
WHERE STORM SEWER IS IN SIDE LOT EASEMENTS: THIS STATIONING IS BASED
ON CENTERLINE OF PIPE.
2. STORM SEWERS SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH CITY OF LA
PORTE STANDARD DETAILS SHALL BE OBSERVED.
3. ALL STORM SEWER 18" AND LARGER TO BE REINFORCED CONCRETE RUBBER
GASKET PIPE, A.S.T.M. C-76 CLASS III, INCLUDING INLET LEADS CROSSING
UNDER EXISTING OR PROPOSED PAVEMENT.
4. REINFORCED CONCRETE PIPE STORM SEWER SHALL BE INSTALLED, BEDDED
AND BACKFILLED IN CONFORMITY WITH CITY OF LA PORTE STANDARD DETAIL
SHEETS. BACKFILL UNDER OR WITHIN 1' (ONE FOOT) OF EXISTING OR
PROPOSED PAVEMENT WITH CEMENT STABILIZED SAND (1-% SACKS PER CUBIC

5. CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE A MINIMUM OF 6" (SIX INCHES) CLEARANCE AT

5. CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE FOR A MINIMUM HORIZONTAL CLEARANCE OF 10,
