ORDINANCE NO. 8BQ AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING, CREATING AND ESTABLISHING A CIVIL DEFENSE ORGANIZATION FOR THE CITY OF LA PORTE~ PROVIDING FOR THE CREATION OF THE OFFICES THEREOF~ AND PROVIDING THAT THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE SHALL BE EX OFICIO CIVIL DEFENSE DIRECTOR~ AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE: WHEREAS, the City of La Porte is located at or near numerous industrial complex centers, which in the event of nuclear attack will be primary targets~ and WHEREAS, the City of La Porte is located on the waters edge of Galveston Bay, and fully exposed to wind and water dam~ges in times of hurricanes and natural disasters; and WHEREAS, the City of La Porte, Texas, needs to establish and organize plans and controls to minimize damages in time of attack or natural disaster, and to provide for the welfare of its residents: S~ction'l. That there shall be and is hereby established a complete Civil Defense Zone, which includes all of the incorporated area of the City of La Porte, Texas, which civil defense zone shall be governed in time of disaster by the following offices, to-wit: Civil Defense Supervisor Deputy Supervisor and Fire Marshal Director of Civil Defense Civil Defense Co-ordinator Team Captain - Police and Communications Team Captain ~ Ambulance and First Aid Team Captain - Firefighting Team Captain - Emergency Welfare Team Captain - Evacuation and Rescue Section 2. The duly elected Mayor of the City of La Porte Texas, shall through and by virtue of his elected office, assume the ex oficio office of Civil Defense Director. The remaining offices shall be filled by appointment of the City Commission of the City of La Porte. Section 3. This Ordinance shall take effect from and a after its pass~ge and approval.
