ORDINANCE NO. 943
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 23, "TAXATION," OF THE CODE OF
ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, BY EXEMPTING ~~~n
Thousand, Five Hundred DOLLARS ($ 7.500.00 ) OF THE
ASSESSED VALUE OF RESIDENCE HOMESTEADS OF PERSONS SIXTY-FIVE
(65) YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER FROM ALL AD VALOREM TAXES LEVIED BY
THE CITY OF LA PORTE FROM AND AFTER JANUARY 1, 1973; AND PRO-
VIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE:
Section 1. Chapter 23, "Taxation," of the Code of Ordi-
nances of the City of La Porte, Texas, is hereby arnended by
adding thereto Section 23-3, which shall read as follows, to-wit:
"TAXATION

"Sec. 23-3. Exception to payrnent of Ad Valorern Taxes.
Frorn and after January 1, 1973, Seven Thousand
Five Hundred and 00/100 Dollars ($ 7,500.00 ) of the
assessed value of residence hornesteads of persons sixty-
five (65) years of age or older shall be exernpted frorn
ad valorern taxes levied by the City of La Porte; provided,
however, that any person desiring the right of exernption
shall first cornplete and file with the Tax Assessor-
Collector of the City of La Porte a sworn statement
stating his name, age, and the legal description of said
residence hornestead; and, provided further, that no resi-
dence hornestead shall be entitled to rnore than one
residence hornestead tax exemption."
Section 2. This Ordinance shall be effective frorn and
after January 1, 1973.
PASSED and APPROVED, this the 18th day of December, 1972.
