ORDINANCE NO. 1224 AN ORDINANCE DELCARING THE RESULTS OF THE ELECTION ON THE QUESTION OF ADOPTION OF AMENDMENTS TO THE HOME RULE CITY CHARTER OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE; HELD IN THE CITY OF LA PORTE ON AUGUST 23, 1980. WHEREAS, there was held in the City of La Porte, on the 23rd day of August, 1980, an election on the question of adop- tion of amendments to the home rule city charter of the City of La Porte; and WHEREAS, there were cast at said election for and against such question, the following votes: . FOR THE AMENDED CHARTER 472 AGAINST THE AMENDED CHARTER 252 as shown in the official election returns heretofore delivered by the Election Judge and officials to the Mayor and City Commission of the City of La Porte and submitted to the City Commission: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE: Section 1. That said election was duly called and notice thereof given in accordance with law: that said election was held in the manner required by law; that due returns of said ~ election have been made by the proper officers; that said returns have been canvassed by the City Commission of the City of La Porte; that a total of 724 persons voted at said election, including persons voting on the regular voting machines, and on the absen- tee voting machine; that a majority of the qualified voters who voted on said question have voted for the adoption of amendments to the Home Rule Charter of the City of La Porte, Texas. Section 2. The Mayor shall, as soon as practicable, certify to the Secretary of State of the State of Texas an authenticated . copy of this ordinance and of the amended Home Rule Charter. Said copies shall be authenticated under the seal of the Ci ty of La Porte. . . . . .. . . Ordinance No. 1224 , Page 2. Section 3. The City Clerk shall record the amended Home Rule Charter at length upon the records of the City of La Porte, in a separate book to be kept in her office for such purpose. Section 4. The City Commission officially finds, deter- mines, recites and declares that a sufficient written notice of the date, hour, place and subject of this meeting of the Ci ty Commission was posted at a place convenient to the public at the City Hall of the City for the time required by law pre- ceding this meeting, as required by the Open Meetings Law, Article 6252-17, Texas Revised Civil Statutes Annotated; and that this meeting has been open to the public as required by law at all times during which this ordinance and the subject matter thereof has been discussed, considered and formally acted upon. The City Commission further ratifies, approves and con- firms such written notice and the contents and posting thereof. Section 5. This Ordinance shall take effect and be in force immediately upon its passage and approval.
