ORDINANCE NO. 1171
.
AN ORDINANCE APPROVING THE DISTRICT BOUNDARY LINES SUBJECT TO
APPROVAL BY THE VOTERS OF THE REVISIONS TO THE HOME RULE CHARTER
OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY ATTORNEY TO
SUBMIT THE PORTIONS OF SUCH WHICH AFFECT VOTING, ALONG WITH
SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION, TO THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF
JUSTICE FOR APPROVAL; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF.
WHEREAS, the Charter Revision Committee has made its final
recommendation for district boundary lines for the election of
counci1persons under the proposed revisions to the Home Rule
Charter of the City of La Porte and such boundary lines repre-
sent changes affecting voting in the City of La Porte:
WHEREAS, Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 of the

United States, Public Law 89-110, requires submission of all pro-
posa1s for changes affecting voting prior to making such change;
and
WHEREAS, the passage of this ordinance constitutes final
action on the location of such district boundary lines prior to
the election concerning such changes; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE:
Section 1.' The district boundary 1 ines for use in conj unc-
tion with revisions to the Home Rule Charter of the City of
La Porte as submitted by the Charter Revision Committee are hereby

approved as submitted, subject to approval by the voters of the
rev isions to the Home Rule Charter, and the City Attorney is
hereby authorized to submit to the United States Department of
Justice all such revisions which will affect voting, along with
supporting documentation requested by the Department of Justice.
Section 2. This Ordinance shall take effect and be in force
from and after its passage and approval.
