AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 4, AMBULANCES, OF THE CODE OF
ORDINANCES, REQUIRING T~T A COpy OF TIlE CHAUFFEUR'S LICENSE
OF EACH DRiVER BE FILED WITH THE CITY CLERK; PROVIDING THAT
ATTENDANTS MUST BE EIGHTEEN YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER; REQUIRING
THAT EACH DRIVER MUST HAVE A CURRENT EMERGENCY CARE ATTENDANT
CERTIFICATE; REQUIRING THAT EACH ATTENDANT MUST HAVE A CURRENT
EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATE; REQUIRING THAT SUCH
CERTIFICATES BE FILED WITH THE CITY CLERK; REQUIRING THAT
COMMUNICATIONS ON ,RADIO AIRWAYS 'BE BRIEF, PUNCTUAL AND FACTUAL;
PROVIDING THAT ANY PERSON VIOLATING THE TERMS OF THIS ORDINANCE
SHALL BE DEEMED GUILTY OF A MISDEMEANOR AND UPON CONVICTION
THEREOF SHALL BE FINED IN ANY SUM NOT MORE THAN TWO HUNDRED
DOLLARS ($200.00); AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE:
Section 1. The Code of Ordinances, City of La Porte, Texas
is hereby amended by adding a section, to be numbered 4-2~,
which said section reads as follows:
"Sec. 4-2~ Copies of Chauffeur's Licenses to be Filed.
"Each emergency ambulance operator must file with the City
Clerk a photostatic; copy of the current chauffeur's licenses
issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety, of each person
employed by him who operates or drives an emergency ambulance
upon the s tree ts - of the City."
Section 2. Section 4-3(1) of the Code of Ordinances, City
of La Porte, Texas is hereby amended to read as follows:
"(1) The attendant must be eighteen (18) years
of age or older."
Section 3. Section 4-4 of the Code of Ordinances, City of
La Porte, Texas is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 4-4 Driver and Attendant must be Certified.
(a) It shall be unlawful to 'operate or drive, or cause to
be operated or driven, an emergency ambulance on the public
streets of the City of La Porte for the purpose of furnishing
emergency ambulance service unless the dirver thereof has a
current Emergency Medical Technician certificate issued by
the Texas Department of Health.
(b) Each emergency ambulance operator must file with the
City Clerk, a photostatic copy of each certificate required
under this section."
Section 4. Section 4-14 of the Code of Ordinances, City of
La Porte, Texas is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 4-14. Failure to render emergency first aid and
assistance.

assistance to the sick or injured at the place of the emergency.1I
Section 5. The Code of Ordinances, City of La Porte, Texas
is hereby amended by adding a section, to be numbered 4-8~, which
said section reads as follows:
"Sec. 4-8~ '. Abuse of radio airways.
IIA11 holders of emergency ambulance operator's permits and
all employees thereof shall, when communicating via airways
also used by a City department, take care to see that all
communications are as brief, punctual and factual as the
circumstances may a11ow.1I
Section 6. If any section, sentence, phrase, clause, or any
part of any section, sentence, phrase, or clause, of this Ordinance
shall, for any reason, be held invalid, such invalidity shall
not affect the remaining portions of this Ordinance, and it is
hereby declared to be the intention of this City Commission to
have passed each sect.ion, sentence, phrase, clause, or part
thereof, irrespective of the fact that any other section,
sentence phrase or clause, or part thereof, may be declared
inv1aid.
Section 7. Any person, as defined in Section 1.07(27), Texas
Penal, Code,: who s:h~ll violate any provisions of this Ordinance,
shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction
shall be punished by a fine not to exceed Two Hundred Dollars
($200.00). Each day that the violation continues shall con-
stitute a separate offense.
Section 8. This' Ordinance shall be effective fourteen (14)
days after its passage and approval. The City Clerk shall give
notice of the passage of this ordinance by causing the caption
hereof to be published in the official newspaper in the City of
La Porte at Least'twice within ten (10) days after the passage
of this ordinance.
