HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-1965-44 . . 11 RESOLUTION ../' 65-44 WHEREAS, the City of La Port~ in keeping with its long established policy of endeavoring to attract industry and expand . its growth, his entered into an agreement dated December 22, 1958, with certain industries named therein, which agreement was there- after amended by a subsequent agreement between City and said other industries da1;ed December 30, 1961, to which agreement reference is here made; and WHEREAS, further pursuant to said policy the City of La Porte has been negotiating for more than the past two years with . said industries named in said agreements and with other industries in an effort to amend and extend the duration of the said agreement; and WHEREAS, the City of La Porte on the one hand and the Houston Lighting and Power Company, National Distillers Company, E. I. DuPont, De Nemours & Co., Ce1ane$e Company of America, Phillips Petroleum Company, and Alamo Industries, Inc., on the other hand hav~ reached agreement on the terms of a new contract in keeping with the City's policy of endeavoring to attract indus- ,. try and expand its growth, a copy of which contract is attached hereto and marked as IlExhibit A"; and WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Texas has pro- vided in Artic1~ 1, Section 5 of the lI~unicipa1 Annexation Actll 1 H. I. .. ~ . -2- of La Porte, Texas be, and they are hereby, authorized and em- powered to enter into the agreement set forth in"Exhibit A" with each of 'the above named industries, namely, Houston Lighting and Power Company, National Distillers Company, E. I. DuPont, De Nemours & Co., Celanese Company of America, Phillips Petroleum Company, and Alamo Industries, Inc.: provided, however, such individual and separate agreements shall become effective only upon the execution thereof by the duly authorized officers of the industry named in each such separate agreement: and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Commission of the City of La Porte shall, in connection with the execution of said agreements,as soon as is possib1e,by ordinance creatd!w3-an Indus- trial District under the terms of the "Municipa1 Annexation Act", covering the ,.land and improvements thereon owned by each of such contracting industries within the extraterritorial jurisdiction of the City of ~ Porte and lying North of State Highway No. 225.
