Benson, ^. F:. Boyle, J.J. Roark, F.R. Ruff. <br />P,~Iinutes of the last meeting were read and apprtbved <br />Oath of <br />o:Pfice A}~e~~r J.J. Roark was sworn in as Alderman to serve for two years. <br />Cemetery r,':rs E.F. Seammen and Mrs l~V.Pd. Casteel appeared before the City Council <br />in the interest of the maintenance of the La Porte Cemetery, explaining <br />that the organization of women who had been responsible for it were no <br />longer able to carry on this work. P~~rs Seammen suggested that the cem- <br />etery mig~t be deeded to the City who would then be responsible for the <br />upkeep. The Council, after discussion, instructed the City Attorney to <br />ascertain and report at the next Council meeting if such action could be <br />taken. <br />~NPA The City Secretary presented a letter from County Commissioner R.E. Tur- <br />Resolution rentine to which was attached a resolution and ordinance on County ~:WPA <br />maintenance of City and County streets. i..~r Turrentine asked that if the <br />-ity wished to participate, the Council pass the resolution and ordinance <br />and foravard copies to his office. Motion by Agee, second by Benson, that <br />pdfiEREAS, House Bill 282, known as the Special Harris County Road Law, <br />passed at the 33rd Regular Session of the State Legislature of the State <br />of Texas in Sections 29 and 33, clearly defines the rights of Harris County- <br />to engage in road improvement work inside or outside the corporate limits <br />of any incorporated city or town in Harris County;and <br />WHEREAS, certain streets of this municipality are a part of the Barris <br />County maintained road system and are subject to all of the conditions <br />in the aforesaid act; and <br />?'VHEREAS, the Works Progress Administration, commonly known as ~+IPA, de- <br />sires to have specific acknowledgement from this City Council,recog- <br />nizing the rights of Harris C unty as set out in the law above referred <br />to; <br />Plow therefore be it resolved and ordained by the City Council of the City <br />of La Porte, Texas, that this municipality recognizes the right of <br />Harris County to engage in road improvement work on any or all of the <br />streets of this mtitnicipality and further freely grants, and in no way <br />contests the rights necessary for the County to engage in such im- <br />provements. <br />Carried <br />~yarrants Motion by Agee, second b~r Benson, that the followin ~~arrants be ratified: <br />3~98,J.~.
