. .

RESOLUTION NO. 86- ~

A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE TEXAS STATE DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS AND
TRANSPORTATION TO WIDEN TO FOUR FOUR-LANE CURBS AND GUTTER THREE BLOCKS
OF LOOP 410 (BROADWAY); AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE:

Section 1. Loop 410 (Broadway) is presently two-lane with
roadside ditches from Fairmont Parkway, to East "G" Street. North of
East "G" Street, Loop 410 (Broadway) is a major commercial thoroughfare
and is important to the citizens of La Porte. The two-lane segment is
in one of the City's busiest centers of commerce.

Section 2. In order to upgrade this section of Loop 410
(Broadway) to match the traffic carrying capacity of the rest of Loop
410 (Broadway) north of Fairmont Parkway, approximately eighteen
hundred (1800) feet of new four-lane curb and gutter pavement will be
needed. Portions of the existing two-lane pavement may need to be
demolished or re-constructed and existing utility lines may need
adjustment as well.

Section i. Inasmuch as Loop 410 (Broadway) has been designated as
an important thoroughfare requiring special attention to landscaping
and pedestrian traffic in the City of La Porte's Comprehensive Plan and
construction plans should reflect this special attention;

Section 4. Inasmuch as improvements to this segment of Loop 410
(Broadway) have been approved by the City's voters in the amount of
$749,000 in Capital Improvement Bonds;

Section 5. The City Council of the City of La Porte petitions the
Texas State Department of Highways and Transportation, to take
immediate steps to approve and participate in the funding of the
construction of at least this segment of Loop 410 (Broadway) in La
Porte at the earliest possible date.

"
