<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION 96-03 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA. PORTE, TEXAS, <br />SUPPORTING THE SAN JACINTO MONUMENT RESTORATION PROJECT AS A <br />SIGNlFICANI' HISTORICAL ASSET TO THE CITIZENS OF THE STATE OF TEXAS, HARRIS <br />COUNTY, AND THE CITY OF LA. PORTE, AND IS THEREFORE RECOMMENDED FOR <br />FUNDING UNDER THE INTERMODAL SURFACE TRANSPORTATION ENHANCEMENT ACI' <br />OF 1991. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the San Jacinto Monument has been desiglUlted a National Historic <br />Engineering Landmark by the Nation Park Service in recognition of its unique and outstanding <br />architecture and construction, a designation which elevates its status to national ranldng and <br />prestige,. and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, desires to apply to the Texas <br />Department of Transportation for restoration funds under the provisions of the Intermodal <br />. Surface Transportation Enhancement Act of 1991, (lSTEA),. and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of La Porte has the authority to pass a resolution in support of <br />this project under the rules and regulations adopted by the governing Commission of the Texas <br />Department of Transportation; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of La Porte recognizes the importance of restoring the San <br />Jacinto Monument National Engineering Landmark to preserve it for future ,generations; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the San Jacinto Monument is an essential attraction to draw visitors to <br />San Jacinto Battleground State Historical Park and the surrounding communities and is therefore <br />a vital economic asset to those communities. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City olLa Porte does hereby <br />ENDORSE the Texas Parks and Wildlife Departments's application for funding under the <br />Enhancement Program of the Intermodal Surface Transportation Enhancement Act of 1991. <br /> <br />APPROVED AND ADOPTED by action of the City of La Porte on the 18th day <br />. of March, 1996. . <br /> <br />~~t 1;:-/f.;, <br /> <br />ArrEST: <br /> <br />~~- <br /> <br />Sue Lenes, City Secretary <br /> <br />Bob Mclaughlin r Mayor Pro Tern <br />
