<br />. <br />~RESOLUTION NO. 89-8 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, <br />COMMENDING THE BARBOUR'S CUT SEAMEN'S CENTER AND DECLARING THEM TO <br />BE GOOD WILL AMBASSADORS FOR THE CITY <br /> <br />WHE REAS, the Ba rbou r' s Cut Seamen's Cente r promotes La <br />Porte by bringing seafarer's into the City for their shopping, <br />entertainment and spiritual needs; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br />well-being of the <br />establishments; and <br /> <br />these <br />City <br /> <br />seafarers <br />th rough <br /> <br />have contributed <br />patronizing local <br /> <br />to the <br />business <br /> <br />WHEREAS, each year a greater number of ships dock at the <br />Barbour's Cut Terminal, Bayport Terminal, and other local <br />terminals, thereby increasing the number of seafarers who visit <br />our City and neighboring communities; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Barbour's Cut Seamen's Center provides a <br />means for loeal business and individuals to offer their time, <br />financial support and services to the benefit of the community; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of La Porte directly benefits from the <br />merchant seamen's purchases from local shops and stores through <br />increased revenue from sales tax income; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the seafarers have greatly contributed to the <br />local economy by the purchase of goods and services from local <br />merchants; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Barbour's Cut Seamen's Center volunteers <br />have spent many hours ministering to the needs of seafarers from <br />allover the world; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Barbour's Cut Seamen's Center volunteers <br />act as good will ambassadors for the City of La Porte. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF <br />THE CITY OF LA PORTE <br /> <br />Section 1. That the Barbour's Cut Seamen's Center be <br />commended on the activities they provide for seafarers, and that <br />they encourage their volunteers to continue to maintain the <br />excellent services they perform. <br /> <br />Section 2. That the Barbour's Cut Seamen's Center be <br />officially recognized as GOOD WILL AMBASSADORS for the City of La <br />Porte and surrounding communities. <br /> <br />Seetion ~.
