<br />. . <br /> <br />e RESOLUTION NO. 83- 16 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, AUTHOR- <br />IZING AN APPLICATION FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FROM THE CITY OF <br />LA PORTE TO THE TEXAS COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM EMERGENCY/ <br />DISCRETIONARY FUND, FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IN HURRICANE ALICIA <br />STORM DAMAGE TO THE CITY OF LA PORTE. <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE: <br /> <br />Section 1. The City Council of the City of La Porte finds, <br /> <br />determines and declares that the Ci ty of La Porte and its resi- <br /> <br />dents have incurred, and will incur, substantial costs, estimated <br /> <br />to be in excess of One Million Dollars ($1,000,000.00), to clean <br />~ up brush and debris, and to repair damaged public facilities, as <br /> <br />a result of Hurricane Alicia. <br /> <br />Section 2. The Ci ty of La Porte has appl ied for a One <br /> <br />Million Dollar ($1,000,00 O. 00) grant from the Federal Emergency <br /> <br />Management Agency, and it is anticipated that the Federal Emer- <br /> <br />gency Management Agency (FEMA) will pay seventy-f ive per cent <br />(75%), or Seven Hundred Fifty Thousand Dollars ($750,000.00), <br /> <br />of the One Million Dollar ($1,000,000.00) estimated cost to the <br /> <br />Ci ty of La Porte. <br /> <br />The Ci ty Council of the Ci ty of La Porte <br /> <br />hereby authorizes Jack Owen, City Manager of the City of La Porte, <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />to execute and deliver all necessary documents on behalf of the <br /> <br />City of La Porte, to the Texas Community Development Program <br /> <br />Emergency/Discretonary Fund, to apply for a grant of Two Hundred <br /> <br />Fifty Thousand Dollars ($250,000.00), to cover the remaining <br /> <br />twenty-f ive per cent (25%) of the Ci ty of La Porte I s estimated <br /> <br />cost of cleanup and repai r. <br /> <br />The City Manager is authorized to <br /> <br />make all appropriate filings with the Texas Department of Com- <br /> <br />munity Affairs, and the Houston-Galveston Area Council Regional <br /> <br />Review Committee, and any other appropriate agencies, for finan- <br /> <br />cial assistance. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Section 3. This Resolution shall be effective from and <br /> <br />after its passage and approval. <br />
