<br />. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 87-1 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, <br />IN SUPPORT OF SENATE BILL NO. 63, RELATING TO THE COMPOSITION AND <br />APPOINTMENT OF THE PORT COMMISSION AND NAVIGATION BOARD OF THE <br />PORT OF HOUSTON AUTHORITY OF HARRIS COUNTY <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the economy of the City of La Porte is affected by <br />the activities of the Port of Houston Authority through its <br />Barbour's Cut Terminal; and <br />WHEREAS, legislation has been drafted for introduction at the <br />next session of the Texas Legislature, in the form of Senate Bill <br />No. 63, which would increase the membership of the Board of <br />Commissioners of the Port of Houston Authority from five to seven <br />members; and <br />WHEREAS, one of the. positions would be appointed by a <br />majority of the Harris County Mayors' and Councils' Association, <br />who would be a resident of a municipality in Harris County that is <br />located adjacent to the Houston Ship Channel and has a population <br />of less than 350,000; and <br />WHEREAS, this Bill would enable the City of La Porte, through <br />its affiliation with the Harris County Mayors.' and Councils~ <br />Association to have a representative on the Port of Houston <br />Authority Commission, thus insuring more adequate representation <br />upon the Board of the Port of Houston Authority by smaller cities <br />in Harris County than has been had in the past; and <br />WHEREAS, the Honorable Gene Green, State Senator, has agreed <br />to sponsor this proposed legislation in the Texas Senate, and the <br />Honorable Erwin Barton, State Representative, has agreed to <br />sponsor this proposed legislation in the Texas House of <br />Representatives. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the <br />City of La Porte: <br />Section 1. That the City Council of the City of La Porte <br />fully supports Senate Bill No. 63. <br />Section 2. That a certified copy of this Resolution be <br />transmitted to the Honorable Gene Green, State Senator, to the <br />Honorable Erwin Barton, State Representative, and to all other <br />members of the Texas Legislature who represent Harris County, <br />Texas. <br />Section 1.
