RESOLUTION NO.2022-21 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, <br />TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT AND EXECUTE <br />ALL DOCUMENTS PERTAINING TO THE STEP COMPREHENSIVE GRANT, <br />THROUGH THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTION, FOR THE <br />FISCAL YEAR 2023 <br />WHEREAS, injuries and deaths from traffic crashes bring loss and suffering to the citizens <br />of this community; and <br />WHEREAS, the cost of such injuries brings economic hardship to families; and <br />WHEREAS, the community's health care system and emergency response resources are <br />significantly impacted by injuries of traffic crashes; and <br />WHEREAS, research shows that speed is a causative factor in many traffic crashes; and <br />WHEREAS, failure to obey traffic laws, traffic control signals at intersections, and <br />impaired driving, causes many traffic crashes; and <br />WHEREAS, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration statistics have shown <br />that reducing speed limit and stopping traffic law violators prevents crashes, saves lives <br />and reduces non -fatal injuries while resulting in economic savings to society; and <br />WHEREAS, the Comprehensive STEP Grant includes public education and intensified <br />law enforcement to get the community to comply with speed limits and traffic control <br />devices, signs and signals. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED thap, the..Cit r of'I;a-Porte authorizes the City <br />Manager to execute all documents for the Comppehetisive STEP (Hari€for October 1, 2022, <br />through September 30, 2023; joining public,-,' pmvatte ,swtoz leaders across Texas <br />supporting the campaign; urging all residents afil visitors of La Piirte to abide by traffic <br />laws, to protect life and the quality of life in thi�.cprpmtinity.��, <br />Section 1. The City Council of the City of La Porte; Texasiauthorizes the City Manager to <br />submit and execute all documents pertaining `to the STEP Comprehensive <br />Grant, through the Texas Department of Transportation, for the Fiscal Year <br />2023. <br />Section 2. All ordinances or parts of resolutions of the City of La Porte, Texas, in conflict <br />with any provision contained herein is hereby repealed to the extent of any <br />conflict. <br />Section 3. If any section, sentence, phrase, clause, or any part of any section, sentence, <br />phrase, or clause, of this Ordinance shall, for any reason, be held invalid, such <br />invalidity shall not affect the remaining portions of this Ordinance; and it is <br />hereby declared to be the intention of this City Council to have passed each <br />section, sentence, phrase, or clause, or part thereof, irrespective of the fact that <br />any other section, sentence, phrase, or clause, or part thereof, may be declared <br />invalid. <br />
