Chapter 172 Employee Retiree Insurance and Benefits Board Meeting <br /> Meeting Minutes for the <br /> December 14, 2010 meeting <br /> 1. Call to Order <br /> The meeting was called to order at 5:32 pm by Heather Weger <br /> Members Present: Martha Gillett, Juliane Graham, Clark Askins, Aaron Corrales, George <br /> VanDyke, Michael Dolby, Steve Valerius, Matt Daeumer, Heather Weger <br /> Members Absent: None <br /> 2. Consider approval of minutes from November 30, 2010 meeting <br /> Matt made a motion to table to minutes, Clark seconded, the motion passed <br /> 3. Receive report on Claims for January 2010 — October 2010 from Aetna. <br /> Maggie Parker was unavailable to give the report on claims. <br /> 4. Discuss city retiree health insurance eligibility "80 point rule" <br /> Matt stated he would like to see the 80 point rule for retiree benefit eligibility be eliminated <br /> and allow employees to have the option of having the retiree benefits without 80 points. He <br /> stated he thought it was an unfair rule that hurt the employees that started their careers with <br /> the City at a young age and benefitted the employees that started their career at an older <br /> age. He also stated he was in agreement with the sliding scale that is currently in place and <br /> wouldn't mind looking at possibly increasing the percentage the employee was responsible <br /> for paying for 20 -29 years of service. The Committee discussed the possible cost impact of <br /> such and the best way to obtain the cost. Steve Valerius suggested hiring an actuary to <br /> determine the cost and possibly presenting that to Council depending on the cost. <br /> 5. Discuss city retiree health insurance premium rates <br /> The Committee decided to have an actuary determine the cost of allowing employees who <br /> have served 30 years with the City of La Porte to pay the active employee /dependent rates <br /> for medical coverage once retired. <br /> 6. Make recommendation to City Council regarding city retiree health insurance premium <br /> rates <br /> There was no recommendation made. <br /> 7. Make recommendation to City Council regarding city retiree health insurance eligibility <br /> "80 point rule" <br /> There was no recommendation made. <br /> 8.
