<br /> <br />SPECIAL CALL MEETING. ( At 5.45 P.I. ) <br />LA PORTS CITY COUNCIL. <br />APRIL l~, 1934. <br />Meeting was called to oruer by Mayor H.Y3.Harrison to appoint <br />a City Secretary ~; treasurer to take the place of Ernest E. <br />Saatnmen who tendered his resignation Saturday April 14, same <br />oeing accepted with instructions to continue holding position <br />untill a Successor could b© appoint©d. <br />Alderman present were as follows: <br />Geo.Counts; C.M.Agee; J.J.Roark; Geo Sharp; & L.C.Lawrence. <br />i~ir J.Ki~ibler Attorney was also present to give advice. <br />Motion was r~ada by uoo Counts c~ seconded oy veo Sharp that <br />SeammenS resignation Ue accepted ~: a 5uacessor be appointed <br />at one®. <br />CARRIED. <br />itiiayor stated ha had received ~` Applications for the position. <br />of City Sec ~: Treasurer, whic<. were as follows: <br />Otis Harrison; Thomas Sullivan; ~ I.W.Rust. <br />Opinion was asked of Rir Kibbler in regards to Utis Harrison <br />being aligiblo; ha replied that Otis Harrison using a relative <br />of the Mayor's in the second degree would rave to ba ruled out; <br />that it was not permissible for tYie Mayor to appoint a relative <br />or in any way to use his authority in favor of same. <br />~, discussion was then hall on the other two applications ~: a vote <br />tal.an on them as follows:- <br />For Thomas Sullivan <br />J.J.Roark <br />FOR I. 1i . RUST <br />C .I~.Agee <br />Geo Counts <br />Geo Sharp <br />L.C.Lawrence <br />;Mayor than appointed I.VY.Rust <br />as City Secretary & Treasurer. <br />AGAINST. <br />C.1~.Agee <br />Gao Counts <br />Geo Sharp <br />L.C.Lawrence <br />AGAINST. <br />J.J.Roark <br />as Successor to Ernest E.Seamraen <br />Motion was made by Gel Counts & seconded by C.Pi. Agee that Rust <br />take over position at 8 A.M. Tuesday. <br />CARRIID . <br />Finance Committee reported that th®y had secured bids for Auditing <br />City S®cratary's books, one from Robert Brashear & another from <br />a i~ir Milligan, a Certified Accountant at a cost of X200.00, both <br />bids being the same8nd min Audit Co. <br />Mr .H~as~~sr ,proposing to work on books of a evening & week ends, <br />thib wi~l probably take from 30 to 40 says. <br />Lotion was made by ~~~,p Sharp & seconded by Roarkt~o i.nve~tigate bids <br />ana for the .Finance ` ' come to some agreement on ttie met:1oa o' <br />Payment ~~~~~ <br />CARRIED. <br />i~:iotion made by Geo Counts d: seconded by Geo Sharp that the Alderman <br />had not in any way influenced or been responsible for City Secretary <br />Seammen's resignat. ~~on <br />CARRIED <br />6.25 '_'.T".
