• i • ~ <br />MINUTES - REGULAR MEETING <br />~. <br />LA POR~~3 C TTY COMMISSION -Jai VARY 12 , 195© <br />10:00 A. M. <br />Regular meeting of the City Commission was called to order by Mayer H. J. Pfeiffer, <br />with the following members and city officials present; Commissioners Jas. S.Crate, <br />Jr., and Wm. P. Jones, Wm. R~aness, representing 'Myatt C. Hedrick, City Engineer, <br />Raleigh Erwin, Supt. of Public 1Yorks, and J.E. P:4uldoon, City Clerk. <br />Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. <br />Mr. Geo. Counts, ~~'. Bartley, Geo. Sharp, Jr., John Iiolman, Rex Brewer and J. H. <br />Baker, representing the La Porte Independent School District, appeared before the <br />Commiss ian and requested them to annex certain territory comprising a portion of <br />the present School Listriet, for the reason that it appeared imminent that the <br />City of Houston was considering annexation of such territory. If the City of <br />Houston did annex this property, then the territory so annexed would automatically <br />beecQn.e the territory of the Houston Independent Soh®ol District. <br />They urged the City to help them protect the Sohool District and in the event of <br />ax~y litigation they personally would vote to recommend the School District to pay <br />one half of the attorney's fees. <br />The Commission unanimously agreed to help the Ia Porte Independent School District <br />'~ and instructed the City Attorney to draw an ordinance and have ready at the next <br />regular meeting, and to include the following field notes in same, as follows% <br />BEGINNING at a point where the East right-of-way line aP Red Bluff Road, <br />Harris County, 'Texas, intersects the Vest boundary line of the La Forte Independent <br />Sohool District, as established by an act of the 36th Legislature, at its second <br />called session, being effective July 15, 1919, and such act appearing of record ~~'~'"`~~• <br />in the Laws of Texas, Volume 19, t~i.ge 55 3 <br />THENCE, in a Southwesterly direction with said West boundary line of said La- <br />Porte Independent Soho®1 District and continuing with said boundary line to a <br />point where it intersects the shore line of Galveston Bay, Harris County, Texas; <br />THENCE, in a northwesterly direotion with said shore line and continuing along <br />said shore line to a point where it intersects an imaginary line running parallel <br />to, 2500' distant from and on the South side of, the center of the Houston Ship <br />Channel; <br />THENCE, in a N®rthwesterly direotion with said imaginary line to a point where <br />it intersects the North right-of-moray line of `T'exas State Highway ~1LFb. <br />Carried. <br />Motion by Jones, second by Crate, instructing the City Clerk to have published <br />in the city's official newspaper, Ordinance No. 387, dated September 13, 1949• <br />Carried. <br />
