MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL <br />JANUARY 25, 1993 <br />1. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Malone at 6:00 P.M. <br />Members of City Council Present: Mayor Norman Malone, <br />Councilpersons Guy Sutherland, Mike Cooper, Bob Thrower, Bob <br />McLaughlin, Alton Porter, Deotis Gay, Jack Maxwell, Jerry <br />Clarke <br />Members of City Council Absent: None <br />Members of City Staff Present: City Manager Bob Herrera, City <br />Attorney Knox Askins, City Secretary Cherie Black, Assistant <br />City Manager John Joerns, Police Chief Bobby Powell, Finance <br />Director Jeff Litchfield, Fire Chief Joe Sease, Planning <br />Director Chuck Harrington, Assistant Director of Public Works <br />Buddy Jacobs, Human Resources/Purchasing Manager Louis Rigby <br />Others Present: Honorable Jim Fonteno, Commissioner Precinct <br />2; Golf Course Superintendent Dennis Hlavaty; Officer Donna <br />Cook; Reserve Police Officer Pat O'Connor; Buyer Susan Kelley; <br />11 citizens <br />2. The invocation was given by Councilperson Clarke. <br />3. Council considered approving the minutes of the regular <br />meeting of Council held January 11, 1993. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Thrower to approve the <br />January 11 minutes as presented. Second by Councilperson <br />Cooper. The motion carried, 9 ayes and 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, Thrower, <br />McLaughlin, Porter, Gay, Maxwell, Clarke and Mayor <br />Malone <br />Nays: None <br />4. Honorable Jim Fonteno, Harris County Precinct 2 Commissioner, <br />addressed Council to personally thank the City, its citizens, <br />and its employees for the help given to Precinct 2 after the <br />devastation from the recent tornados in the Channelview area. <br />Our help was sincerely appreciated, and he would be happy to <br />reciprocate if there is ever anything Precinct 2 can do to <br />help La Porte. <br />There were no citizens wishing to address Council at this <br />time. <br />5. Council considered an ordinance approving and authorizing a <br />contract between the City of La Porte and the Port of Houston <br />Authority for provision of fire suppression services. <br />
