• • <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL <br />JULY 24, 1989 <br />1. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Malone at 6:00 P.M. <br />Members of City Council Present: Mayor Norman Malone, <br />Councilpersons Betty Waters, Mike Cooper, Ed Matuszak, Bob <br />McLaughlin, Mike Shipp, Deotis Gay, B. Don Skelton, Jerry <br />Clarke <br />Members of City Council Absent: None <br />Members of City Staff Present: City Manager Bob Herrera, City <br />Attorney Knox Askins, City Secretary Cherie Black, Assistant <br />City Manager John Joerns, Assistant to the City Manager Janie <br />Bais, Director of Community Development Joel Albrecht, <br />Assistant Director of Public Works Buddy Jacobs, Director of <br />Parks and Recreation Stan Sherwood, Finance Director Jeff <br />Litchfield, Golf Pro Alex Osmond, Parks Superintendent Bert <br />Clark, Treatment Plant Supervisor Walter Barnes <br />Others Present: Debbie Barnes; John Black, Bayshore Sun; <br />approximately 20 citizens <br />2. The invocation was given by Councilperson Clarke. <br />3. Council considered approving minutes of the special called <br />meeting held July 5, 1989. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Skelton to approve the <br />minutes of July 5 as presented. Second by Councilperson <br />Clarke. The motion carried, 9 ayes and 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Waters, Cooper, Matuszak, McLaughlin, <br />Shipp, Gay, Skelton, Clarke and Mayor Malone <br />Nays: None <br />4. The Mayor proclaimed September 4, 1989, as Jerry Lewis <br />Telethon Day in La Porte. The proclamation was accepted by <br />Debbie Barnes. <br />5. Paula Bridges addressed Council regarding the traffic problems <br />on Myrtle Creek. She asked that Council do something soon to <br />slow the traffic down. She had contacted the Texas Department <br />of Public Safety about the problem, and they advised her to <br />give Council a chance to do something; if nothing is done, <br />they will look at the problem. <br />Jo Davis addressed the Council to encourage that they vote for <br />
