MINUTES OF THE PUBLIC HEARINGS AND REGULAR MEETING <br />LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL <br />JANUARY 11, 1988 <br />The meeting was called to order by Mayor Malone at 6:00 <br />P.M. <br />Members of City Council Present: Mayor Norman Malone, <br />Councilpersons Betty Waters, John Lloyd, Ed Matuszak, Alton <br />Porter (arrived at 6:15), Mike Shipp, B. Don Skelton, Jerry <br />Clarke <br />Members of City Council Absent: Councilperson Deotis Gay <br />Members of City Staff Present: City Manager Bob Herrera, <br />City Attorney Knox Askins, City Secretary Cherie Black, <br />Assistant City Manager John Joerns, Administrative <br />Assistant to the City Manager Janie Luna, Police Chief <br />Charles Smith, Director of Public Works Steve Gillett, <br />Director of Parks and Recreation Stan Sherwood, Director of <br />Finance Jeff Litchfield, Finance Officer Robert Stewart, <br />Director of Community Development Joel Albrecht, CIP <br />Manager Dr. Ross Cox, Chief Building Official/Zoning <br />Official Ervin Griffith, Building Inspector Mark Lewis, <br />Revenue Collections Supervisor Charlene Eldridge, <br />Accounting Supervisor Cynthia Alexander <br />Others Present: Doug Latimer, Planning and Zoning <br />Commission Chairman; Ed Hearon, Barbour's Cut Imports, <br />Inc.; John Keever and Mr. Patterson, Union Carbide; Morris <br />Stiver, Stiver Engineering; John Cutler, SWA; Bob Porter <br />and Al Moomaw, Dupont; Curtis Herrod and Stan Minor, Public <br />Works Department; Melissa Doyle, Bayshore Sun; 23 citizens <br />2. The invocation was given by Mayor Malone. <br />3. Mayor. Malone read a letter from Mark Lewis and Joel <br />Albrecht regarding the hearing on dangerous buildings, <br />which stated that two of the buildings had been withdrawn <br />due to voluntary consent of the owners to have the <br />buildings demolished. The letter also emphasized that <br />since the funds to be used for demolition are from a Block <br />Grant, Council should act upon the remaining buildings at <br />this meeting in order not to lose the funding. <br />
