<br />MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL CALLED MEETING <br />LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL <br />JUNE 6, 19$8 <br />1. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Malone at 6:02 P.M. <br />Members of City Council Present: Mayor Norman Malone, <br />Councilpersons Mike Cooper, Ed Matuszak, Alton Porter, Mike <br />Shipp, Deotis Gay, B. Don Skelton (arrived at 6:10), Jerry <br />Clarke <br />Members of City Council Absent: Councilperson Betty Waters <br />Me hers of Citv Staff Present: City Manager Bob Herrera, <br />City Attorney Knox Ask ins, City Secretary Cherie Black, <br />Assistant City Manager John Joerns, Administrative Assistant <br />to the City Manager Janie Bais, Police Chief Charles Smith, <br />Assistant Director of Public Works Buddy Jacobs, Purchasing <br />Manager Louis Rigby <br />Others Present: John Black, Bayshore Sun; 7 citizens <br />2. The invocation was given by Councilperson Shipp. <br />3. Council adjourned into executive session at 6:03 P.M. to <br />confer with the City Attorney and Sears & Burns on <br />acquisition of land for sanitary landfill site and to discuss <br />with the City Attorney on evaluation criteria for <br />environmental attorneys regarding Houston Chemical Services <br />permit application. Council returned to the table at 7:40 <br />P.M. <br />4. Council considered immediate rehabilitation/replacement of <br />sanitary sewer lines on East "E" Street. <br />Motion was made by Counci~Pr4nn Skpltnn to authorize staff <br />to begin negotiations with H Carlos Smith for design of <br />rep~acement of sewer ].in on East "E" Street from Iowa to <br />Browne~~, and the items budgeted for utility adjustment in <br />ht is year's bu~.get be ~x.panded to included utility <br />replacement. Second by Councilperson Porter. The motion <br />carried, 8 ayes and 0 nays.. <br />
