~- i <br />• <br />MINUTES <br />SPECIAL N~ETING <br />LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL <br />MAX 8, 19l~6, 5:0o P. ~~. <br />~~eetin~; was called to order by Mayor Ruff with the following <br />Aldermen and City offioials present: Ald. J. J. Roark, J. L. <br />Dunham, T. F. Smith, J, N. Johnson, City Att~-.. Kiibler with <br />Mr. Kiibler acting as Secretary. <br />A committee from the Chamber of Commerce composed of G. L. <br />McMillan, president and Geo: Poole, Secretary-Manager appeared <br />before the Council. Curtis P. Bower, representative from Texas <br />Airways, also appeared before the Council. <br />3~ <br />Air field Mr. ~'oole explained that it was possible for the City to <br />acquire the air field 2 miles west of La Porte on the Spencer <br />~iighway by having field declared surplus and by making an <br />offer for a nominal amount and agreement to maintain field <br />in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Civil <br />Aeronautics !luthority. He stated that the fi~3d had been <br />leased to I. B. '.JlQltz and Ludwig Fiedor of Houston. Mr. <br />Bower stated that hie company as wellas other compan3:es <br />would be willing to maintain field as required without expense <br />to the City. <br />Resolution Upon motion by Johnson, second by Smith, the following resolu- <br />tion was adopted: <br />STATE OF TEXAS <br />COUNTY OF HARRIS <br />~fiEREAS, the City of La Porte, Texas desires to obtain <br />the auxiliary air field located about 2.6 miles Vest of La Forte, <br />on Spencer Highway, for the Qurpose of maintaining and operating <br />a modern and adequate air field for the use and convenience of <br />the public generally; and <br />~HEREA.S, the City is willing; and able to maintain said <br />air field for such purpose in accordance with the Civil Aeronautics <br />Authority's regulations and specifie~ations; and. <br />9FHEREAS, said air field has not been declared surplus; <br />NOP~, THEREFOR"', BE IT RESOLVED BY TFiE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF LA PORTE, TF3C.AS: That the proper governmental agency <br />or agencies be requested to immediately declare said air field_ <br />surplus and to convey the same to the City for the sum of Ten <br />Dollars 010.00) and other valuable considerations, that the <br />said City offer the sum of Ten Dollars 0 10.00} anc agree, ob- <br />ligate and bind itself to maintain said air field for the use <br />of the public generally, in accordance with the Civil Aeronautics <br />Authority's regulations and specifications and all other rules <br />and regulations required by the Federal Government in the <br />operation and maintenance of such air field; and further that a <br />certified Dopy of this resolution be forNrarded to the proper <br />governmental authorities, and it is so ordered. <br />Carried, <br />11ze it~.yor was instructed ,to sand a copy of r~solution'to each of <br />
