I'Tuldoon. <br />The pi.~'pose of this meeting z~a~ to discuss Z~*:i.tli representai.ives of various <br />civic groups in the annexed territar'y to get ':,heir feelings of being in the <br />City. <br />The I3ayor spoke briefly and made it clear to those present that this meeting <br />z~ra.s not called tc tape action on de-arx~ex:~tion a£ any territory noztr ti~:~.thin <br />the city limits of La Porte, but to discuss tl-!e3s grievances, if they had any, <br />and to obtain their vic-ors on being annexed. lie also outlined the benefits <br />they ~•rere receiving by being in the city. <br />I.ir. C, F. PhiJ_lips, representing Crescent Shores addition, stated his adc~_tion <br />favored de-annexation, but hoped if the city clid de-annex them that the city <br />tivou~l continue to furnish there ~.`rith ~~ratnx. <br />I.Ir. L. E, i~osr~r, Sr., representii~ Oal.hurst ~:ddition, stated his addition <br />favored being de-annexed at 'this tune. He thought the people of this addi- <br />tion ~ro~.al.d be ~~rilling to 'oe in the city if city ~'aci_lities ti~~rere given them. <br />• He further stated the~T did not intend to incorporate if the city de-annexed <br />them. <br />?:~. J, R, Arnold, representing B~rside Terrace add-~.t%on, said his addition <br />a1.so fa:aored de-annexation, <br />I;m. Hobert ~~, Bla~ckard, representing Pine F31uff ~.ddi`tion, stated his addition <br />eras 9B percent in favor of remaining in the City of La Porte, that is pro- <br />viding they ~rere given assurance that the city Ztrj.ll in~~ediately take the <br />necess~:sy steps to provide ti~rater for his conmunity, ;~,rith adequate pressure <br />for dr;n1~ ~; puc'poses, fire protection, etc,, at a reasonable rate, and also <br />furnish garbage piclt up in a reasonable time. is. Blackard then handed <br />the I:Tasyor a petition signed by the people o~ his community. <br />I:~. S. D. Donahoe, representing Shady Oaks 1ddition said his addition ~rould <br />like to be de-anne«ed from the city. <br />I.s, T. i?, i`tatkins, representing the Strap; ~~nd Loma~> seas, said that most <br />of the people in these communities ti~~~.shed to be de-arlin~ed. He stated he <br />could not see ~~~rhy they should be 't axed for services they tirexe not getting, <br />such as city ~^rater, semrage, proper fire protection and garbage picl~ up. <br />Former i~:l~var Ii. J. Pfeiffer statsd that he o!~ns cansideravble property in <br />various parts of the neu~r~_y annexed texritory in dispute, and bras firmly i_n <br />favor of remaiitii.ng annexed to the City of La Porte. He f•~ther stated that <br />it ~~rould be fair for t he Commissi on to put tlzi..s question to the vote of rile <br />people. <br />
