<br />' MINUTES - REGULAR MEETING <br />LA PORTE CITY COb~lIISSION -JUNE 3Ra, 1955 <br />10:00 A. PJI. <br />Regular meeting of.tho La Porte City Canmission was called t o order by Mayor <br />M. D. Burgin, with the follcmrSng members and city mfficials present: Commiss- <br />ioners L. R. Rigby anol H. P. Pfeiffer, Supt. of Public Z~arks W. A. Arthur, <br />Special Counsel Jho. S. Kiibler, and City Clerk J.E. PduldOOn. <br />M~.nutes of the last meeting were read and approved. <br />Mr. H, Hudson, Southwestern Be11 Telephone CQmpar~y Manager, and Mr. Pipcock, <br />D:i,strict Manager, appeared befar~e the Commission and filed a request for higher <br />rates in La Porte. He stated the last increase in telephone rates here was in <br />1950, and since that time, because of the continuing high cost of furnishing <br />telephone service, the present rates have proved to be inadequate to yield a <br />fair return on.the investment in the La Porte telephone system. <br />They gave the city rate ad~ustraerrt data, and asked the City to give this matter <br />their attention. The City officials said they would take this matter urd er ad- <br />visement. <br />Mr. Jack Trainer appearee~ before the Com~ni.ssion and requested them to approve <br />a barbecue pit in Block 53, La. Porte. <br />The Commission unanimously approved a barbecue pit, with grates, to have walls <br />of masonry 8" in thickness, and steel stack, to be above aztomobiles. <br />Carried. <br />~d[otion by Pfeiffer seeon~l by Rigby, ,panting the Ce~mmunity Ch~oh permission <br />to paint signs on the city sidewalks, advertising their revival meetings. <br />Carried. <br />The Mayor read a letter from the Texas National Guard, in which they request <br />to construct a hangar on the East side of the National Guard building. <br />Motion by Rigby second by Pfeiffer, approving hangar plans on the East side <br />of the National Guard. buulding, pending approval by the Civil Aeronautics <br />Ac~ninistrati on. <br />Carried. <br />Motion by Rigby, second. by Pfeiffer, der~.ng a request for tax refund on taxes <br />voluntarily paid in erxor, on Lots in block 5, La Porte. <br />Carried. <br />Mayor I3~gin requested the City Clerk to open and read the bids for 153. feet <br />of 6" sewer line in Blocks 5~., 67, 78 and 91, La Porte. The bids were opened <br />and read as follovrs: Burton Utility Serv3.ce -bid at eighty ceirts ($.80¢) <br />or X1,227.20, and seventy cents (x.70¢) for any extension, City to construct <br />manholes. , <br />313 <br />
