MINUTES - REGULAR MEETII~~ <br />LA FORTE CIT Y COB~dI5 SI CN -MARCH 6TH, 1959 <br />7:00 P, M. <br />Regular meeting of the City Commission was called to order by Mayor H. P. Pfeiffer, <br />with the following present : Commissioners Boyle, Brown awl La~rler, Supt. ~.A. <br />Arthur, and Asst. City Clerk Ruth Huddleston. <br />Also present eras ~. Chas. D, Boyle. <br />~dinutes of the last meeting were read and approved. <br />Carried. <br />Mayor Pf eiffer brought up the natter of the l`Srst Baptist Church wanting to <br />have the paving lien lifted on their property on South Broadway, so that they <br />can go ahead with the building of their new church. He stated that he had <br />talked to Mr. Biibler about this natter, and that Mr. Ki,ibler had advised hi-a <br />that at the tine these liens were filed they were not filed properly, and that <br />we cannot hold those persons to the payment of same, or cannot legally force <br />them then to pay. <br />Mr. Boyle stated that he would like to have some time to go over this matter, <br />and thought that this should be taken care of at a meeting at which all members <br />were present. He also suggested that the agenda of each nesting be prepared <br />by the City Clerk and given to each Commissioner at least 2~, hours before the <br />meeting,, so that some stu~r can be given to the business coming up. This way <br />the matters coming before the meeting could be handled more efficiently as Drell <br />as more quickly. This was unanimously.. agreed upon. <br />The Mayor stated that he felt they should s~bi.de by ~. Kiibles t s advise ixi regard <br />to the paving lien. After discussion, it was decided that they would wait until <br />Mr. Kiibler can be at a meeting to discuss this matter with theffi. <br />ll~ayor Pfeiffer stated that Mr. Ben Gaylor, an insurance man, wants to appear <br />before the Commission with a presentation of a group insurance program for the <br />City of La Porte. <br />The time for taking care of Mr, Gaylor's request was discussed, and it was <br />agreed to have a special meeting on ~Pednesday night ~ March 11, 1959, at <br />7:00 P. M., to hear Mr. Gaylor, and also to talk to Mr. Kiibler about the <br />paving lice. <br />Mayas Pfeiffer stateat that Ernest Brarn, Jr.~ would like to appear before the <br />Ca~n:ai.ssion at their next regular meeting, to give the members a resuere of the <br />revenue bonds. This request was granted. <br />The matter of the opening of bids on March 20th, w~ brought up, and it was <br />unanimously decided to have that meeting start at 6:00 P. M., so that most <br />of the routine business could be handled fiy 7:00 P. M., the time snheduled <br />for the opening of the bids. <br />Mayor Pfeiffer instructed the City Clerk to write letters to all of the <br />engineering firms who had Wade application for the Sob of consulting engineer, <br />and advise them that Wyatt C , Hedrick had been hired, and thank then for their <br />time and interest. <br />C~ <br />
