Meeting called to order by Mayor Meza at 5:00 P.M. <br />Members of the City Council Present: Mayor J.J. Meza, <br />Councilperson Malone, Councilperson Longley, Councilperson <br />Kibodeaux, Councilperson Simons, Councilperson Gay, Council- <br />person Westergren <br />Members of the City Council Absent: Councilperson Faris <br />out of town on business <br />Other City Officials Present: City Manager Hudgens, City <br />Attorney Askins, City Secretary Waters, Public Works Director <br />Hodge <br />• Others Present: Kieth Johnson of the Bayshore Sun, Shawn <br />Balthrop of the Baytown Sun and 13 citizens <br />2. The invocation was given by Councilperson Malone. <br />3. Mayor Meza stated the reason for calling this Emergency Meeting <br />was to report the opinion and decisions reached by the Citys' <br />legal staff and the Secretary of States' office concerning the <br />Run-off election results held on April 25, 1981. <br />City Attorney Askins read the legal opinion (attached) to those <br />present. <br />City Attorney Askins read Ordinance No: 1258, An Ordinance <br />Declaring The Results of The Run-off Election Held In The City <br />of La Porte On April 25, 1981, For The Election of A Council- <br />person - District 2; Councilperson District 4; And Councilperson - <br />District 5 And Containing A Section - Repealing Ordinance No: <br />1257. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Simons to approve and Adopt <br />Ordinance No: 1258 as read. Seconded by Councilperson Kibodeaux. <br />The motion carried, 6 ayes and 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Malone , Longley, Kibodeaux, Simons, Gay, <br />Westergren <br />• Nays: None <br />4. Mayor Meza ask that Mr. B.Don Skelton come forward to receive the <br />oath of office as Councilperson District 5. <br />
