.

CITY OF

.
SHOREACRES

.,'=-"....

601 SHOREACRES BOULEVARO

SHOREACRES, TEXAS 77571
(713) nl-2244

"A COMMUNITY OF BEAUTIFUL HOMES ON GALVESTON BAY"
HOME OF THE HOUSTON YACHT CLUB

MAYOR
Billy J, James

CITY SECRETARY
Cindy Logan

On March 28th your City Council unanimously approved Resolution 88-6 opposing the
annexation of BMUD by La Porte.

The reasons for our opposition are loss of revenue through our Patrol Pact. relinquishing
our ETJ. thus preventing any possible city expansion and it did not provide adequate time.
prior to the election. to study any other effects it might have on our citizens. Other
reasons discussed prior to voting on this Resolution were the many things in common currently
shared by BMUD and the City of Shoreacres. Some of these are our common boundaries and the
deep environmental concerns of many citizens in both communities. Others are the age of our
sewer systems and the fact that we use the same sewer treatment facilities. Last, '.but '.',not
least. we both share the same Police and Fire Departments along with ambulance service.

The leadership of Shoreacres believes that it would be in our best interest if the vote
fails. to inquire into the possibility of BMUD joining our City.

In doing this. neither community would be inheriting any problems that do not currently
exist in both communities. The age of our sewer systems are approximately the same.
We will both be going on surface water within a couple of years and we could service BMUD
without much additional cost. as we now have our Gateway Village water plant in operat!on.
We currently have valving in place that would allow either community to temporarily use
the others water and sewer facilities should the need arise.'

Finally. I know many people in Shoreacres and BMUD, and basically we are pursuing the
same dream. a quiet and safe place to live and raise families and have input into our own
destiny. For these reasons, members of City Council and I encourage you to go to the polls
on May 7th at Bayshore Elementary School and Vote "No" to the annexation of BMUD by La Porte.
Absentee voting begins on April 18th. Voting place for absentee will be the BMUD office
located at 707 Shady River Road. If you would like any additional information please
contact City at 471-2244. or call me or any of the Aldermen named below. This is a
most important issue for each of us. Please vote "No".

Harry Cornelius - 471-3154
Richard Florance - 471-0416
Wayne Gamble - 470-0207
Jim Neal - 471-3119
Charles Ritterhouse - 471-2066

Aldermen

Bill James - 471-5810
Mayor
