• • <br />MINUTES <br />OF THE <br />SPECIAL CALLED MEETING <br />OF THE LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL <br />APRIL 3, 1982 <br />1, Meeting called to order by Mayor Meza at 8:00 P.M, and <br />recessed to await election returns. <br />Meeting reconvened at 10:07 P.M. <br />Members of the City Council Present: Mayor J. J. Meza, <br />Councilpersons Malone, Longley, Faris, Latimer, Simons, <br />Gay, Skelton, Westergren <br />Members of the City Staff Present: City Manager Jack Owen, <br />City Attorney Knox Askins, City Secretary Betty Waters, <br />Chief of Police H. F. Freeman <br />There were several citizens present. <br />2. The City Council canvassed the election returns of the <br />Regular City Election. <br />City Attorney Askins read: AN ORDINANCE DECLARING THE RESULTS <br />OF THE REGULAR ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF LA PORTE ON APRIL <br />3, 1982, FOR THE ELECTION OF A MAYOR; COUNCILPERSON - DISTRICT <br />2; COUNCILPERSON - DISTRICT 3; COUNCILPERSON-AT-LARGE - <br />POSITION A; COUNCILPERSON-AT-LARGE - POSITION B, <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Skelton to pass and approve <br />Ordinance No. 1302 as read by the City Attorney. Second by <br />Councilperson Faris. The motion carried, 8 ayes and 0 nays <br />(Councilperson Simons was away from the Council table). <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Malone, Longley, Faris, Latimer, Gay, <br />Skelton, Westergren and Mayor Meza <br />Nays: None <br />3. City Attorney Askins read: AN ORDINANCE DECLARING THE <br />RESULTS OF AN ELECTION ON THE QUESTION OF LEGALIZING BINGO <br />GAMES FOR CHARITABLE PURPOSES IN THE CITY OF LA PORTE; HELD <br />IN THE CITY OF LA PORTE ON APRIL 3, 1982. <br />r <br />
