• <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL <br />AUGUST 10, 1992 <br />1. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Malone at 6:00 P.M. <br />Members of City Council Present: >Mayor Norman Malone, <br />Councilpersons Guy Sutherland, Mike ({ooper, Bob Thrower, Bob <br />McLaughlin, Alton Porter, Jack Maxwell, Jerry Clarke <br />Members of City Council Absent: Councilperson Deotis Gay <br />Members of Cit Staff P esent: Assistant City Manager John <br />Joerns, City Attorney Knox Askins, City Secretary Cherie <br />Black, Director of Pu lic Works Steve Gillett, Police Chief <br />Bobby Powell, Planning Director Chuck Harrington, Human <br />Resources/Purchasing Manager Louis Rigby <br />Others Present: Members of Centennial Certificate committee <br />Lou Lawler, Flo Schelling, Carolyn Anderson; recipients Karl <br />and Loretta Johnston; 5 citizens <br />2. The invocation was given by Councilperson Cooper. <br />3. Council considered approving the minutes of the meeting held <br />July 27, 1992. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson McLaughlin to auurove the <br />July 27th minutes as presented. Second by Councilperson <br />Thrower. The motion carried, 8 ayes and 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, Thrower, <br />McLaughlin, Porter, Maxwell, Clarke and Mayor <br />Malone <br />Nays: None <br />4. A Centennial Certificate of Appreciation was presented to Karl <br />and Loretta Johnston. <br />5. There were no citizens wishing to address Council. <br />6. Council considered an ordinance appointing members to the La <br />Porte Area Water Authority. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Cooper to appoint James <br />Sweeton to position 4 on the Water Authority. Second by <br />Councilperson McLaughlin. <br />The City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 1851 - AN ORDINANCE <br />APPOINTING DIRECTORS TO THE LA PORTE AREA WATER AUTHORITY; <br />CONTAINING A REPEALING CLAUSE; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE <br />OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br />
