ORDINANCE NO. 859 AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING SPEED LIMITS DURING CONSTRUCTION ON A PORTION OF STATE HIGHWAY 146 WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, AND PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION THEREOF. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE: ,WHEREAS, the Texas Highway Department has made it known to the City of La Porte that construction opera- tions are now underway for the improvement of State Highway 146 from the La Porte South City Limit to north of Spencer Highway, and, WHEREAS, in the interest of safety, it is desirable to maintain a construction speed zone during the construc- tion period, NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, that a construction speed zone be established along State Highway 146 from the La Porte north City Limit to Tyler Street, 45 miles per hour; from Tyler Street to "B" Street, a distance of approximately 0.445 mile, 30 miles per hour; from "B" Street to the south City Limit, a distance of approximately 1.161 miles, 45 miles per hour; when so s~gned within said zone. Necessary signs for posting the speed zone will be furnished, installed, and maintained by direction of the Te~as H~ghway Department's e~gineer in cha!ge of the project. Any person violating the provisions of this ordinance shall upon conviction be fined in any sum not to exceed Two Hundred Dollars ,($200). This ordinance shall be in effect only during the period of construction, and completion of the project shall automatically cancel the speed zone.
