Existing pavements and base course beyond the indicated lines for trench excavation'which <br />have been disturbed, damaged or undermined shall be restored or replaced by the Contractor to <br />match existing pav~ments and base coarse, as directed, at no additional expense to the Owner: <br /> <br />C.3.8 Back-filling <br /> <br />Where settlement occurs in trenches and pits due to improper compaction, excavate to the depth <br />necessary to rectify the problem, then back-fill and compact the excavation and restore the <br />surface to the required elevation. <br /> <br />C.3.9 Compaction <br /> <br />Use hand-operated, plate-type, vibratory or other suitable hand tampers in areas not accessible to <br />larger rollers or compactors. All costs to repair such damage, in a manner satisfactory to the Owner's . <br />Representative, shall be borne by the Contractor at no additional expense to the Owner. <br />3. Protect newly backfilled areas and adjacent structures, slopes, or grades from traffic, erosion <br />settlement, or any other damage. Repair and re-establish damaged or eroded grades and slopes <br />and restore surface construction prior to acceptance.
