In garages exceeding 600 square feet in area, direct fired <br />heating appliances, other than unit heaters located at least 8 feet <br />above the floor, shaU be located in a room used for no other purpose <br />and cut off from the garage by noncombustible construction having <br />a fire resistance rating of not iess than 3 hours. Opening::; hi the <br />above mentioned cut-offs shall be restricted to those necessary for <br />heating, pipes and ducts. <br /> <br />". <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />'. <br /> <br />Heating. <br /> <br />(b). Walls, floors and ceilings which effect such separation <br />shall be continuous and unpierced by openings of any kind; pro- <br />vided that door openings equipped with self-closing fire doors lead- <br />ing to salesrooms or offices that are operated in connection with <br />such garages shall not be prohibited; and provided also that the <br />use of elevators and stairways to other stories accessible only by <br />vestibules or balconies, constructed and arranged as required for <br />fire towers, shall be permitted. <br /> <br />5. Truck loading or unloading area. A truck loading or un- <br />loading area within a building occupied as a store shall be sepa- <br />rated from other parts of the building by construction having a fire <br />resistance rating of not less than one hour, and any load bearing <br />part of the building within the loading area shall also have a fire <br />resistance rating of not less than one hour. <br /> <br />6. Ramps. Ramps connecting floors of garages, which are not <br />considered as required exit ways under section 15, need not be en- <br />closed in sprinklered garages, nor in open air parking garages. <br /> <br />7. Floors. Garage floors of other than earth construction <br />which drain to sewers or storm drains shall be provided with an <br />oil separator or trap. Where floor areas are extensive, a series of <br />such drains shall be provided. The contents of oil separators or <br />traps shall be collected at frequent intervals and removed from the <br />premises. Garages not exceeding 3,000 square feet in area. A garage <br />not exceeding 3,000 square feet in area may be attached to or form <br />a part of any building provided separation from other occupancies <br />shall be by walls and floor and ceiling constructions of at least one- <br />hour fire resistance, and with all connecting openings provided with <br />self-closing fire doors.
