<br />and adjoining manufacturing districts and surrounding blocks on all
<br />sides which constitute an exposure to the district or within which new
<br />construction of a mercantile or manufacturing character is developing.

<br />SECTION 38. DISPOSAL OF WASTE DURING CON- .
<br />STRUCTION OPERATIONS.
<br />Waste material and rubbish shall not be stored nor allowed to
<br />accumulate within the building or in the immediate vicinity, but
<br />shall be removed from the premises as rapidly as p'racticable. Com-
<br />bustible waste and rubbish shall be removed at least daily. No
<br />material shan be disposed of by burning on the premises or in the
<br />immediate vicinity. Dry material or rubbisn shall be wetted down,
<br />if necessary, to lay dust or prevent being blown about.
<br />SECTION 39. ELEVATORS, MOVING ST AIRW A YS
<br />AND AMUSEMENT DEVICES.
<br />(a). Elevators, moving stairways and amusement devices,
<br />hereafter erected, or installed, or hereafter altered shall be con-
<br />structed, installed and maintained in accordance with rules duly
<br />promulgated by the building official, or, in the absence of such
<br />rules, with "The American Standard Safety Code for Elevators,
<br />Dumbwaiters and Escalators" approved by the American Standards
<br />Association.

<br />(b). It shall be unlawful for the owner to operate or permit
<br />the operation or use of a passenger elevator, freight elevator, mov-
<br />ing stairway or amusement device, hereafter installed or con-
<br />structed, until a certificate shall have been obtained from the
<br />building official.
<br />
<br />(c). The building official shall make or calise to be made an
<br />inspection of every passenger elevator at least once in every
<br />three months, and of every freight elevator, moving stairway and
<br />every amusement device at least once in every six months.
<br />

<br />Section 4. Saving Clause.
<br />
<br />Nothing in this ordinance or in the code hereby adopted shall be con-
<br />strued to affect any suit or proceeding now pending in any court, or any
<br />rights acquired, or liability incurred, nor any cause or causes of action accrued
<br />or existing, under any act or ordinance repealed hereby. Nor shall any
<br />right or remedy of any character be ,lost, impaired or affected by this ordi-
<br />nance.
<br />
<br />Piping for any and all types of gas used for lighting or fuel
<br />purposes in buildings and structures shall be installed to conform
<br />with generally accepted good practice. The "Recommended Good
<br />Practice Requirements for the Installation, Maintenance and Use
<br />of Piping and Fittings for City Gas" and "Gas Systems for Welding
<br />and Cutting" and "Liquefied Petroleum Gases" of the National
<br />Board of Fire Underwriters shall be deemed to be the generally
<br />accepted good practices.
<br />
<br />Section 5. Validity.
<br />
<br />The invalidity of any section or provision of this ordinance or of the
<br />code hereby adopted shall not invalidate other sections or provisions thereof.

<br />Section 6. Inconsistent Ordinances Repealed
<br />Ordinances or parts thereof ,in force at the time that this ordinance
<br />take effect and inconsistent herewith, are hereby repealed.
<br />Note.-It might be wen, as is sometimes done, to specify definitely
<br />the ordinances or parts of ordinances which are intended to be repealed.

<br />plumbing and drainage system of a building or structure shall be
<br />instaUed in conformity with the "Recommended Minimum Re-
<br />quirements fqr Plumbing," of the Bureau of Standards, United
<br />States Department of Commerce.
