AN ORDINANCE ORDERING A SPECIAL ELECTION TO BE HELD IN THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, ON' THE QUESTION OF THE ADOPTION OF A ONE PER CENT (1%) LOCAL SALES AND USE TAX WITHIN THE CITY; DESIGNATING THE DAY .OF THE 'ELECTION AND THE POLLING PLACE; APPOINTING ELECTION OFFICIALS THEREFOR; PROVIDING THAT ALL DULY QUALIFIED RESIDENT ELECTORS SHALL BE QUALIFIED TO VOTE; PRESCRIBING FORM OF BALLOT; PROVIDING FOR NOTICE OF ELECTION; CONTAINING OTHER PROVISIONS RELATING TO SAID ELECTION; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. WHEREAS, Article 1066c, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes (Acts 1967, 60th L~gislature, ,R~gular Session, Chapter 36, ,P~ge 62) auth~rizes the, go~erni~g body of any city, town or vill~ge in Texas to call an election for the purpose of adopti~g a local sales and use tax, within such city, town or vill~ge; e NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, THAT: Secti'on' 1. That a special election shall be held in and thro~ghout the City of La Porte, Texas, on the "7th day of September, 1968, "at wh.:i:'6h election there shall be submitted to the resident qualified voters of said City, for their action thereupon, the followi~g propositions: "FOR adoption of a one per. cent (1%) local sales and use tax within the city." "AGAINST adoption of a one per cent (1%) local sales and use tax within the city." Section 2. The City Commission of the City of La Porte hereby des~gn~tes and establishes all of the area encompassed e" within the corporate limits of the City of Lc~t',Porte, as one election precinct, for this election, and the City Hall of the City of La Porte is des~gnated as the 'one polling place for such election. Voting"machines shall be used in the conduct of such election. Section 3. Mrs. ArbeLa RaLston is hereby , appointed Presidi~g Judge of said election, and Mrs. Fern Arthur is hereby appointed Alternate Presidi~g Judge of said election. The maximum number of clerks which may be appointed to serve at said election is three (3), who shall be selected by the Presiding Judge or the Alternate Presiding . Ju~ge, as the case may be.
