<br />. . <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. ,. 794 <br /> <br />,.' <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE ORDERING A SPECIAL ELECTION TO BE HELD IN THE CITY <br />OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, ON' THE QUESTION OF THE ADOPTION OF A ONE <br />PER CENT (1%) LOCAL SALES AND USE TAX WITHIN THE CITY; DESIGNATING <br />THE DAY .OF THE 'ELECTION AND THE POLLING PLACE; APPOINTING ELECTION <br />OFFICIALS THEREFOR; PROVIDING THAT ALL DULY QUALIFIED RESIDENT <br />ELECTORS SHALL BE QUALIFIED TO VOTE; PRESCRIBING FORM OF BALLOT; <br />PROVIDING FOR NOTICE OF ELECTION; CONTAINING OTHER PROVISIONS <br />RELATING TO SAID ELECTION; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Article 1066c, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes <br />(Acts 1967, 60th L~gislature, ,R~gular Session, Chapter 36, ,P~ge <br />62) auth~rizes the, go~erni~g body of any city, town or vill~ge <br />in Texas to call an election for the purpose of adopti~g a local <br /> <br />sales and use tax, within such city, town or vill~ge; <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY <br />OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, THAT: <br /> <br />Secti'on' 1. That a special election shall be held in <br /> <br />and thro~ghout the City of La Porte, Texas, on the "7th day of <br />September, 1968, "at wh.:i:'6h election there shall be submitted to <br /> <br />the resident qualified voters of said City, for their action <br /> <br />thereupon, the followi~g propositions: <br /> <br />"FOR adoption of a one per. cent (1%) local sales and <br />use tax within the city." <br /> <br />"AGAINST adoption of a one per cent (1%) local sales <br />and use tax within the city." <br /> <br />Section 2. The City Commission of the City of La Porte <br /> <br />hereby des~gn~tes and establishes all of the area encompassed <br />e" within the corporate limits of the City of Lc~t',Porte, as one <br /> <br />election precinct, for this election, and the City Hall of the <br /> <br />City of La Porte is des~gnated as the 'one polling place for such <br />election. Voting"machines shall be used in the conduct of such <br /> <br />election. <br /> <br />Section 3. <br /> <br />Mrs. ArbeLa RaLston <br /> <br />is hereby , <br /> <br />appointed Presidi~g Judge of said election, and Mrs. Fern Arthur <br />is hereby appointed Alternate Presidi~g Judge <br />of said election. The maximum number of clerks which may be <br />appointed to serve at said election is three (3), who shall be <br />selected by the Presiding Judge or the Alternate Presiding <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Ju~ge, as the case may be. <br />
