All reports of violence in the City of La Porte workplace will be taken seriously and will be <br />investigated thoroughly and promptly. The City of La Porte will not tolerate retaliation in any <br />form against an employee who makes a report of workplace violence. <br />3.18 Weapons Policy <br />The City of La Porte does not allow any job applicant, employee, contractor, subcontractor, <br />vendor, agent or representative to possess, use, conceal, carry or maintain a weapon or <br />handgun in City vehicles (except for Commissioned Peace Officers and/or those approved to <br />carry a weapon as part of their official duties.) <br />3.19 Searches <br />The City may conduct inspections or searches of the work site, including but not limited to City <br />property used by employees whether secured or unsecured or secured by a lock provided by <br />the employee with or without prior notice. If reasonable suspicion exists, the City may also <br />conduct unannounced searches or inspections of the employee's personal property located on <br />City premises, including vehicles parked on City parking lots. The City's authority to conduct <br />unannounced searches is not limited to situations involving reasonable suspicion of possession <br />and/or use of drugs/alcohol. <br />Examples of City property include, but are not limited to City owned: <br />1. <br />Vehicles <br />2. <br />Workspaces <br />3. <br />Desks <br />4. <br />Lockers <br />5. <br />Machinery <br />6. <br />Computers <br />7. <br />File Cabinets <br />All searches must be authorized and conducted under the direction of the Human Resources <br />Manager with the approval of the City Manager. Employees who refuse to cooperate with a <br />search may be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination. <br />3.20 Use of City Owned Vehicles <br />City -owned or leased vehicles may only be used for official City business. City owned or leased <br />vehicles may only be driven by authorized City employees. If an employee drives his/her own, <br />or a City -owned, rented or leased vehicle on the job or while carrying out City -related business, <br />the employee must comply with the following: <br />Drivers must have a valid State of Texas driver's license appropriate for the vehicle <br />operated, must maintain a satisfactory driving record, and must inform their supervisor of <br />any change in status. <br />• Always observe all posted laws and speed limits. <br />• Always wear seat belts when the vehicle is in operation. <br />20 <br />
