• All maintenance and use records for City vehicles must be completed as directed by the <br />employee's supervisor. <br />• Report any broken, missing, or worn parts, tires, etc., or any needed maintenance of City <br />vehicles to the appropriate supervisor immediately. <br />• All drivers must be eligible for coverage under the City's insurance policy. <br />• Drivers covered by Department of Transportation regulations must comply with them at all <br />times. <br />• At no time may an employee under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs drive a city <br />vehicle or a personal vehicle while conducting city business. <br />• Tobacco Use Prohibited -The use of all tobacco products (including smokeless) is <br />prohibited while operating and/or being a passenger in City owned vehicles and/or <br />equipment. <br />• Employees involved in an accident while operating a city vehicle, or while operating a <br />personal vehicle on city business, must immediately notify the proper law enforcement <br />agency and the appropriate supervisor and/or Department Director as well as submit to a <br />drug/alcohol test. Accident reports, along with any law enforcement report, must be filed by <br />the employee with the Department Director and the Human Resources Manager. <br />Any employee whose driver's license is suspended for any reason shall notify his/her supervisor <br />and Human Resources immediately. The City may, at any time, check the driving record of a <br />City employee who drives as part of his/her job duties to determine that he/she maintains the <br />necessary qualifications as a City driver. Refer to the point system in the City of La Porte Safety <br />Manual to identify serious infractions. Employees agree that they will cooperate in giving the <br />City whatever authorization is required for this purpose. <br />Employees who are issued take-home vehicles must comply with the City's Take -Home Vehicle <br />Policy. <br />The above is not a complete and exhaustive list of vehicle use policies. Violations of any of <br />the specific items listed, or improper, careless, negligent, destructive, or unsafe use or operation <br />of a vehicle, may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment. <br />3.21 Use of City Equipment/Property <br />Employees are responsible for items formally issued to them by the City, as well as for items <br />otherwise in their possession or control or used by them in the performance of their duties. At <br />the time of issuance, employees will be required to sign certain forms or other documentation <br />evidencing their receipt of property and/or equipment and authorizing a payroll deduction for the <br />cost of loss, damaged, or unreturned items. In addition to payroll deductions, the City may take <br />any other action it deems appropriate or necessary to recover and/or protect its property. <br />The City recognizes that under certain circumstances the employee's occasional use of city <br />telephones, computers, facsimile, e-mail, copiers, Internet, and similar resources for personal <br />use may be necessary or beneficial to the City. The City may establish separate policies <br />governing the use of specific equipment. The City will discipline an employee for inappropriate <br />21 <br />
