Councilperson Martin moved to approve the ratification of a property tax revenue increase reflected <br />in the La Porte 2022-2023 Fiscal Year Budget: the motion was seconded by Councilperson Bentley; <br />the motion was adopted, 8-1, Councilperson_ Williams voting against. <br />b. Presentation, discussion, and possible action to adopt Resolution 2022-18, accepting the <br />2022 Harris County Appraisal District certified appraisal roll for property situated within the <br />City of La Porte. Presentation, discussion, and possible action to approve the City's proposed ad valorem tax <br />rate of $0.71 for the 2022-23 Fiscal Year. [Councilperson Martin] <br />Councilperson Martin reported the Committee met, received updates and discussed drainage <br />projects, and set the next meeting for October 10. <br />9. ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS <br />• Planning and Zoning Commission, September 15 <br />• Zoning Board of Adjustments, September 22 <br />• La Porte Development Corporation Board meeting, September 26 <br />• City Council meeting, September 26 <br />The City Manager said there were no reports this evening. <br />10. COUNCIL COMMENTS Hear announcements concerning matters appearing on the agenda; items <br />of community interest; and/or inquiries of staff regarding specific factual information or existing <br />policy from the Mayor, Councilmembers, and City staff, for which no formal action will be <br />discussed or taken. <br />Councilpersons thanked Ms. Free for the invitation to the rodeo; commended the City staff and City <br />Manager for their hard work on the budget preparation and encouraged working towards reining in <br />property appraisals and their effect on tax bills in the future; and shared information about the Chamber's <br />first responder golf tournament coming up Thursday. <br />11. EXECUTIVE SESSION <br />a. Texas Government Code Sec. 551.071 (1)(A) - Pending or Contemplated Litigation: The City <br />Council will meet in closed session with the City Manager and legal counsel to discuss SV <br />Sons HWY 146, LLC vs. City of La Porte, Texas. [George Vie, Counsel for City; Clark Askins, <br />Assistant City Attorney; Corby Alexander, City Manager] <br />b. Texas Government Code Section 561.072 - Deliberation regarding the purchase, exchange, <br />lease, or value of real property.
