<br />You have requested my opinion, as to the above described property on
<br />South 5th Street, previously conveyed to the City of La Porte by a
<br />sheriff's deed after a tax suit. The sheriff1s deed was dated March
<br />6, 1975. '

<br />I enclose copy of a tax resale deed from the City of La Porte to
<br />Michael HickS, as to Lot II, Block 31, La Porte, Texas. Michael L.
<br />Hicks and wife, Colleen Hicks, subsequently sold Lot II to Lloyd c.
<br />Hudman and wife, Mae Belle Hudman, in 1981. I have not checked the
<br />title subsequent to 1981 as to Lot II, Block 31, Town of La Porte.

<br />As to the remainder of the property, the City ran a title check
<br />through Ticor Title Company on this property in 1985. I enclose
<br />copy of that title commitment. I have not had it brought down to
<br />date.
<br />
<br />As yo~ can see from ~his title commitment, title shows to be in the
<br />City of La Porte, with an exception as to rights of La Porte Land
<br />GompanYi by deed dated May 9, 1978, filed for record under Harris
<br />~ounty Clerk's .file No. E59l049.
<br />
<br />It 'would' be my recommendation that you contact the City's ad valorem
<br />tax attorney, Mr. Dexter Joyner, for his assistance in handling the
<br />legal matters for bid and resale by the City of La Porte, of the tax
<br />title to Lots I - 13, inclusive, Block 128, \~~wn of La Porte. In
<br />addition 'to publishing notice, I would recommend that the City give
<br />actual notice to La Porte Land Company, in the event it wishes to
<br />bid on the tax title.

<br />Any other tax titles owned by the City of La' Porte' should be
<br />included in this sale, so that these properties can be removed from
<br />the exempt tax rolls, and placed on the rolls subject to taxation in
<br />the fu ture.
