i ! <br />DISTRICT 5 ....................POPULATION..5,048 (-4.99%) <br />Councilperson Charles D. Young............214 Reynolds, La Porte, Texas <br />The area making up District 5 is the old Baymud Municipal District and was annexed by the City of <br />La Porte in October 1988. <br />The District includes the entire Galveston Bay Front within the La Porte city limits, it also unites after <br />10 years the entire Baymud area ,as was annexed by La Porte. The area that many years ago contained <br />mostly summer homes is now made up of very large and very expensive by front homes. <br />The City of La Porte golf course if located in District 5, as is one of our oldest landmarks, Sylvan Beach <br />Park, built at the turn of the century and one of the land mark areas for Harris County and the surrounding <br />area for fun and recreation. This District is proud of the La Porte Fitness and Senior Citizen Center 1 <br />located on South Broadway and Little Cedar Bayou Park with a wave pool, baseball, soccer fields, <br />walking trails, picnic areas and other aminities. <br />In bringing this District together we bring together people who worked hard prior to the annexation to <br />Improve their community and maintain its character, <br />There are three schools in the area as well as day care facilities, five churches and several small <br />apartment complexes and one gated townhouse complex that sits right on Galveston Bay, a bank, post <br />Office, fast foods, office buildings and strip centers. <br />Ethnic Breakdown: <br />White Hispanic Black Asian American Indian Pacific Islander Other Housing Units <br />3,690 929 318 I8 31 0 82 2,241 <br />
