REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM <br />Agenda Date Requested: August 13, 2018 <br />Requested By: Jason weeks <br />Department: City Manager's Office <br />Report Resolution: Ordinance: <br />Exhibit: Service Asreement <br />Exhibit: 2018 Annual Report <br />Appropriation <br />Source of Funds: N/A <br />Account Number: N/A <br />Amount Budgeted: N/A <br />Amount Requested: N/A <br />Budgeted Item: YES NO <br />SUMMARY & RECOMMENDATION <br />The current agreement with the Economic Alliance Houston Port Region ("Alliance") expired on June 30, 2018; <br />therefore, we've received a request to renew the economic development services agreement with the Alliance <br />for thirty-six (36) month period beginning July 1, 2018 and ending June 30, 2021 in the annual amount of <br />$20,000. La Porte may terminate this agreement at any time by giving thirty (30) days' written notice to the <br />Alliance. <br />The annual economic development services agreement includes: <br />• One educational seminar specific to La Porte for local economic and community development <br />professionals, as well as government officials, local business and community leaders. <br />• Establish an ongoing program to develop quality prospect leads, focusing on the targeted <br />industries of greatest importance to LaPorte. <br />• Undertake or update workforce analyses to provide current data targeted to prospective industries. <br />• Interact with local, state, and federal officials, and local economic development organizations and <br />chambers of commerce on a regular basis. <br />• Compile and disseminate economic and business related data to La Porte on at least an annual <br />basis. <br />• Interact with the Texas Department of Economic Development on behalf of La Porte and other <br />economic development groups to acquire economic business related data. <br />• Promote small or disadvantaged business development. <br />• Present La Porte in Alliance's marketing materials, including its website. <br />• Provide annual or more frequent reports to La Porte on the performance of the services. <br />• Prepare press releases and act as media liaison publicizing the La Porte efforts. <br />• La Porte will be included as a participant in Alliance's economic development initiative Project Stars, <br />which focuses upon regional marketing and regional aesthetic improvements within the San Jacinto <br />Texas Historic District. This service provides to the La Porte that the Alliance will communicate grant <br />opportunities regarding this project to city, at no obligation to the city. <br />• Invitation to city officials and staff to all events organized and/or hosted by the Alliance. <br />• The Alliance will provide full membership on its board of directors for a designee of the City of La Porte. <br />Furthermore, the Alliance will make available to La Porte the following: <br />
