<br />Section 4 Standards for ambulance license <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />(a) Each ambulance shall, at all times when in use as such. be suitable for the <br />transportation or the patient from the standpoint of health. sanitation. and safety. <br />(b) Minimum equipment requirements for each ambulance shall be those established by <br />the Texas Department of Health. <br />(c) When an ambulance penn it is issued or renewed under provisions of this chapter, the <br />chief EMS officer shall affix to each vehicle in a conspicuous place, a decal to <br />indicate the vehicle meets all requirements established by this chapter. <br />(d) The chief EMS officer or his representative shall cause all ambulances to be inspected <br />prior to being placed in service and shall thereafter inspect such ambulances no less <br />than once each year. All permitted ambulances are subject to spot inspections with <br />no notice. Should any ambulance fail to pass inspection. the chief EMS officer shall <br />notify the ambulance operator to correct the defects noted in the inspection and. after <br />such notification, the chief EMS officer shall cause such ambulance to be re- <br />inspected within 48 hours. If upon re-inspection, the defects noted in the original <br />inspection have not been corrected. the permit decal shall be removed from the <br />vehicle and shall only be replaced on the ambulance after the defects have been <br />corrected. Should a vehicle fail to pass inspection as above. the operator of the <br />ambulance company shall pay a prorated fee for the remainder of the permit year if <br />the permit is regained. <br />(e) No ambulance that has been substantially damaged or altered. or has received damage <br />the repair cost of which exceeds five hundred dollars ($500.00). shall again be placed <br />in service in the City of La Porte until it has been repaired and re-inspected by the <br />chief EMS officer or his designee. There shall be no charge for this inspection. <br />(f) Every ambulance shall be maintained in a clean and sanitary condition. <br />(g) Emergency calls that originate in the City of La Porte are to be handled by City of La <br />Porte EMS crews. Should a citizen call direct to the private ambulance company, it is <br />the duty of that company to properly refer the call to La Porte EMS. Should the <br />responding crew find the patient needs transport to a facility not authorized for La <br />Porte EMS transport and the patient is stable enough to make the trip, the referring <br />company shall be given the first opportunity to transport the patient to the facility of <br />his or her choice. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Section 5 Requirements for business location <br /> <br />If the business location of the ambulance firm or organization is within the city <br />limits of the City of La Porte. the building must be in compliance with all city ordinances <br />and codes as well as state and federal laws. Pursuant to this specific chapter, no such <br />ambulance service shall operate as its main place of business. sub-station. or storage <br />facility in a private residence or apartment. The chief EMS officer or his designee has <br />the right to inspect such locations as often as he deems necessary to make sure all <br />provisions of this chapter are in effect. Refusal of any ambulance provided with a <br />business office located in the city limits to allow the chief EMS officer to inspect such <br />premises shall be considered a violation of this chapter. <br /> <br />. <br />
