Page 1 of 10 <br />Subject: GENERAL RULES <br />1. All new employees shall be citizens of the United States, <br />furnish proof of date and place of birth, and are required to <br />have a physical examination before beginning work. <br />2. All employees of the City of La Porte are expected to pay <br />their debts. Should any employee fail to do so, they will be <br />given one chance to make arrangements to start paying or face <br />dismissal. <br />3. Any employee who is terminated for dereliction of duty, <br />misappropriation of funds, stealing, falsification of records or <br />for any other justifiable reason shall forfeit all rights to any <br />unused vacation or other benefits generally received from the city. <br />4. The city has adopted a retirement program, however, there <br />is a ninety (90) day period before it is effective for all new <br />employees. With the exception of a few employees who were over age <br />when the retirement program was adopted, the program applies only <br />to those new employees less than fifty (50) years of age. <br />All employees on retirement (above few excepted) shall <br />retire upon reaching the age of sixty five (65). All employees not <br />on retirement shall retire upon reaching the age of seventy (70). <br />. 5. The city subscribes to a Uniform Service for all of the out- <br />side employees. The cost is divided with the city paying one-half <br />(Z) and the employee paying the other one-half (z) . <br />6. City vehicles may be carried home at night only by those <br />employees who are on call. <br />7. No gasoline or oil shall ever be put in a personal car or <br />truck even for reimbursement for a trip made for the city. When a <br />city vehicle is not available and a personal car is used for city <br />business, approval has to be granted by the City Administrator in <br />advance. If approval is given, employee will present a bill to <br />the city for payment through regular channels. <br />8. All supervisory, fire, police, and previously advised <br />employees are required to work the number of hours necessary to <br />satisfactorily care for their job. <br />9. All Utility maintenance crews work forty (40) hours per <br />week. Scheduled overtime is paid at regular rates. Non scheduled <br />overtime is paid at time anti one-half (1 2) . <br />10. Garbage is to be picked up every holiday except Christmas <br />day. When garbage crew works on a holiday they are given an extra <br />day's pay. <br />i 11. Off duty ambulance drivers ($10.00); off duty warrant <br />servers ($7.50); off duty officers paid for court appearances; and <br />water department employees paid for turning on water after regular <br />working hours ($2.00); all of the above will be paid for performing <br />these services once each month at the time of the second half pay <br />check. <br />
